when despite our differences was released, there was a lot of talk on if it would be nominated for a grammy. in fact, some of us were wondering if the 19 september release (30 september is the cut off date) was so that despite our differences would have a chance. this was by far the quickest record that amy and emily have put out (from going into the studio to releasing the album) to date.
i am sorry to report that the indigo girls have been passed up
yet again.
i never expected it to happen, but i would have been uber happy if it did. but then again, really, IG is too good for the grammies. they have been a force to be reckoned with since their major label debut in 1989. they have succeeded all on their own drive, not from getting radio airplay, winning grammies and other mainstream awards, and having a big hit. so yeah, whatever, who needs a silly grammy?
still, it would have been nice if an album as amazing as despite our differences had received some recognition.
on a related note, a lot of my favorite rap and hip hop artists were nominated for various awards. lupe fiasco has several nominations. so do justin timberlake, chamillionaire, yung jock, and mary j. blige. so good on them.
