The Beauty of Winter... (02:22)
I'm really enjoying "Whiteout" (by Ken Follett). The storyline is being portrayed over "hour long" chapters, which is a difficult way to write a book, but with other novelists taking a similar perspective and TV shows like 24, it is quite possible, if however quite difficult.
The chapter that I just read was absolutely beautiful! I could feel the cold on my cheeks, and a tear nearly fell from my eye when I imagined the wind blowing. I could see the family hovering in a large kitchen, in the process of removing winter weather clothes and boots that are covered in slowly thawing snow, revealing the more appropriate indoor wear underneath.
When I looked up from the book, I was surprised to realize that I am in a condo in South Carolina, near the ocean, and that it is the middle of summer - and nearly 30 C (80 F) outside. The connection that I have begun to form with this novel is stunning, and very enjoyable. I hope this keeps up through the rest of the novel.
I must admit I have been rationing my reading of this book - I have kept myself to two chapters a day at most - and always at night (so as not to be disturbed). I wonder if I'll be able to keep to my ration for the duration.
Cute Guys and Cloudy Skies - the Last Day (15:56)
There have been more cute guys out today - there is that one guy that reminds me of Isaac out today, he seems to be out at the lazy river every day that it doesn't rain. It isn't raining today, but it is cloudy again ~sigh. Worst of all, this is the last day that we'll be hear - my dad wants to leave tomorrow morning at around 6AM.
My parents have told me for the past two days "it was bright and sunny this morning..." arrrg, it seems to get cloudy moments before I wake up (according to them). It looks like there's no sunning for me today. I guess I'll just get back to sunning when I get to Michigan.
It seems that the Ethernet cable is due back sometime this evening - I may be able to keep it until check out, but my dad probably won't agree to that… It's just the kind of guy he is.
The Evening Beach Walk (20:40)
I just got back from an evening walk along the beach. My mom wanted to come along with me, I didn't complain. I decided to wear my over-sized black & white button up, leaving it unbuttoned. At the end of the deck, as I was walking down toward the beach, I noticed two guys standing on either side of the stairs, talking and smoking. They looked like father and son (the son being in his upper 20s - and damn sexy). He complemented me on my shirt - I couldn't hold back my smile and looked him right in the eye (he was wearing some very stylish glasses) and thanked him.
I was a little nervous, since as I was walking toward him, I though, "he's very attractive, especially with those glasses!" But, I also thought that talking with him right now would be bad, since I didn't have cologne on, and probably smelled like hotel soap. But, oohhh, it's so nice to get complements from cute guys. He kept talking about my shirt after I had walked by, which was an even nicer feeling ~ahhh. I didn't see him on the way back - didn't really expect to.
Ahhh, Shakespeare...
I finished reading Othello today - the ending wasn't surprising, it was very typical of a Shakespeare tragedy. I've decided to start reading my first Shakespeare comedy, "The Tempest." I'm not sure how much I'll like it, I've never been a fan of comedy in general, and I don't think that I've ever read a comedy before (maybe I have - but I don't remember it).
Family!
Got news today that my paternal grandmother is in the hospital for her leg injury that she had a few weeks ago (I posted about the fall she had). She was at Bixby Medical Center (BMC) the hospital in Adrian when I wrote that, but now she's in a place in Toledo, Ohio -- St. Paul's or something like that. She's staying there over night for some special tests to see why her leg is still swollen.
Apparently, she's only in there for some tests, nothing even minor is wrong. She needs to stay overnight for the results from the test (she could, from what I understand, sign herself out without any trouble).
Plan of Events--
Well, my dad wants to leave the condo by 6AM tomorrow. We'll turn in the Ethernet at that time, and we'll be heading into W. Virginia or Virginia for an overnight stop. Since I have to get up early, I have to go to bed ASAP. I guess that means that I won't be reading much of /. tonight ~ah well.
BTW: Looked up the link to a "mobile" version of Slashdot: slashdot.org/palm - it doesn't have the summaries on the index page, but it's better than relying on the other site I found through my cell's google search.
