I was talking to Dereck about the shuttle (he and I usually talk about science/space news), specifically about how some reporters were freaking out, in a kind of "Is the shuttle DOOOOOMED?" kind of way - we both thought it was funny, and then he mentioned something about how some news site has even gone as far as to say that the entire fleet of shuttles was grounded. Just as he sent that last one, I loaded up /. and saw "
Science: Shuttles Grounded Once Again" - I just had to tell him. ^_^
Also, the article right before that was "
IT: Free Web Hosting a Fount of Malware" - which sounds like what I believe happened to me when I was surfing for those spiffy pictures. However, all the links that I clicked on were on the first page of my google image search - and it seems a little odd for something listed so high on a google search to link to a page that has a virus.
Eh, I guess I'll never know for sure how this happened - there was a lot of oddities surrounding this virus. The last virus that I remember getting was either Code Red or Nimda (I think it was Nimda), and I think there was one that I got a year ago - nearly to date (can't remember the name of that one)! I remember talking to my boss about it at CyberMedics though... Strange thing though: both of those viruses were because of flaws in IIS. Hahaha, the one that I got last year somehow infected an IIS script (I had uninstalled IIS after I got Nimda - back in 2001). It was so odd to have a virus that was infecting the remnants of IIS - it was like I was being haunted! The virus in both cases never got very far, just infected an IIS file or two and was immediately detected. BTW: Back in '01, I didn't know all that much about computer security - not that I'm perfect now, just a little wiser.
another weird dream... (and other stuff)
This has to be the strangest dream that I've had in a loooong time.
I dreamt that I got onto my computer and logged onto my LJ to check my friends page - the first thing that I saw was an entry from someone (I'm not sure who it actually was) about the new Harry Potter Book - and *BANG* I was not reading my friends page anymore, I was actually there with them chatting about the Book. I was keeping her little brother (like 2 years old - shiver) occupied while she was cooking dinner. The little terror had forced me into playing "horsy" and was using my hair as the reins! OOOhhh, it makes me cringe to think that something like that could really happen. The house was all white too - which was odd.
While I was "trotting" around the living room, she was telling me about how she was getting the "student edition early release DVD of Harry Potter" (the most recent book) really soon. *ding dong!* and there's the DVD - just like that, seconds later! Accept this DVD looked like an LP - it's like wooooah, that's weird. And she goes over to play it on a record player, like all "student edition: early release DVDs" look like old LPs.
This has to be one of the strangest dreams that I've ever had, and the first one that I've had about LJ... I think I'm going mental.
homework
grrrr, I've still got a lot of homework to do. You would think that the last seminar would be a LITTLE less intense - especially since I started my homework and reading for this seminar about three days early, but nooooo, there's still a heck of a lot of crap to do. I blame it on the fact that my instructor has padded in a third chapter for us to read and the homework reflects that extra chapter - it's like having 150% of the usual homework load. Even the last Monday Report is longer (1,500 words and has more restrictions - more on this later) which SUCKS!
SERVER!!!
Well, I've got the server running again. I noticed that if I switched on the PS, and tried turning it on right away, the lights would come on (just a quick flash) but the fans wouldn't - but if I left the PS set to off, and a few minutes later switched it on - the lights and fans would come on for just a second. So, I let it sit, switched off for about two hours. Switch on, (lights/fans on - and back off like it usually does) and press 1/0 button - POWER ON!! w00000000tttttt! I so want to play with operating systems now (Linux, Windows XP, maybe even BSD - more about this later as well).
12 reasons why gay people should not be allowed to get married (seriously)
Grabbed from
maodaidoji (who grabbed it from someone else - etc.)
1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.
3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.
6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.
7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.
12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.
