Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. If you want to, you can then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you. I added "if you want to," because I know some of you would rather just the first part ;)
elvenjoy gave me these:
Photography
One of my passions. I think of photography as a means of really seeing. Standing there and trying to take a picture of something, no matter what it is, forces you to stop and focus, literally and figuratively, and I appreciate that position as a channel for art and understanding. Photography, like other art, is also a means of communication on multiple levels - between the artist and the audience, between the audience and the piece, between the artist and the piece...to me, it's a thousand silent conversations between souls, and that's what makes beauty or creativity.
Poetry
Another passion. To me, poetry is the rhythmical cry of the inspired soul. It is a means of painting with words, of creating a picture or an idea using the mind as the canvas. It speaks in a way that prose cannot, because it is freer, bound by as many or as few rules as the poet wishes. To me, it's illuminating.
Politics
Ah. Politics was not really something I cared about until the last couple of years, when I started to realize that we have a responsibility to care about the issues that are present in our world, and not to care is irresponsible. Politics has such a variety of connotations, mostly negative. But politics is also a venue for change, for communication with our world, and for representation. Politics is the different ways people want their thinking and opinions represented. As I mentioned, I've become a little more attentive to them recently, not just with the election, but when I really came to understand more about the war and about our government. I've been relatively outspoken about how disappointed I feel with some of the choices the government has made and the general attitude of arrogance and ignorance in our nation. I just feel that our nation needs to become more globally aware and make smarter decisions.
Strength
It's interesting you should choose this word for me, Heather. I usually think of myself as weak, to be honest. I think of strength as resilience, endurance, perseverance, determination...and so often I don't really see that in myself. I see strength as being able to stand up underneath the things that would crush you down, and I think a lot of times I let myself be weighed down. But anyway, yeah, I guess that's how I see strength.
Encouragement
Encouragement, to me, is building people up enough that they can keep going, sort of helping to renew their determination or their spirits. It's important to me to be able to do that for people...I guess because I feel weighed down a lot, I hate it when other people have to feel that way, and want, even in some way, to maybe help them feel like they can go on, they can make it.
