new years
we are, I think, the last sizable population on earth to experience the end of 2008.
Went out to happy hour to a weirdly empty downtown, where the consistantly awesome karaoke bar was NOT DOING KARAOKE. freakish and went back home to shoot off illegal aerial fireworks with my neighbors and their daughters (who were still using sparklers the next day) new years is the big holiday here- 4 of july is for amateurs, but people ahve been shooting off fireworks since thanksgiving. it's sweet. and the chinese style noisy ones are the most popular.
and then onto the boat of doom! we got roped into going on this harbor cruise, which sounds alright, but literally was the tippiest boat EVER. I don't get seasick but MAN, I have spend some time on variously sized boats around hawaii, and this made a kayak seem stable. combined with drinking, there were a lot of upset people. dancing actaully makes you feel better sicen youre moving with the pitch and roll, and you can incorporate this into an electric slide style ridiculousness.
but new years day made me happy to live here, my roomate and I went surfing of the choppy and endlessly exciting diamond head on a beautiful sunny day. Its been raining for weeks, but now everything is green and lush. and then ate plate lunches in the park under the trees and felt we achieved hawaii nirvana. that that wins best new years day by far.
