Confession Tuesday: Birdwatching edition

May 11, 2010 15:44

What, I haven't done a confession, or a post in months? Liar! You must not be reading often enough. ;)

I kid.

I Confess:

- That I am a semi-closeted "birder". I am absolutely fascinated by birds, as long as they're in the wild. Unless someone figures out how to keep a hawk without needing to hood/jess it, I'm not interested in having one as a pet.

- That between just Sunday and Monday, I observed the following in our back yard:

+ Several Canada Geese (I also observed their poo all over the yard....)
+ A mated pair of Mute Swans, and their four fuzzy little cygnets.
+ A couple of Baltimore Orioles (the birds, not the ball players.)
+ What I think is a nesting pair of Solitary Sandpipers.
+ A whole bunch of Red Wing Blackbirds.
+ A Great Blue Heron.

also the usual assortment of Robins and Sparrows.

- That the the thing I miss most about living in the city are the Red Tailed Hawks. My mom claims they have them out there, but I've not heard or seen them. For so long, their screams and cries were a regular part of living on Alston St.

Now, unrelated to birds:

I Confess:

- That the girl who uses my treatment room at work when I'm not here never puts things away right. When I come in on Tuesdays, I always need to re-arrange, and it makes me nuts. I could be adult and proactive about it, but I prefer to stew. It drives Carrie crazy.

- That, though I love her, I am extremely thankful that my Aunt has headed back to Long Island. She came to visit for the weekend, and it's like being hit with a tornado. You think *I'M* loud, or I talk a lot? I have nothing on her. She's funny as hell though.

- That I had a total breakdown this weekend, about Steven. After I sobbed my eyes out for awhile, I realized that I never really had any time to process. I was busy making sure my mom was OK, and dealing with Holidays, all the way through to his memorial, mid-January. Right after that, Kati got sick again, and I was wrapped up in that until she passed. Then we packed and moved. We're finally all unpacked, and starting to settle in, and I realize that I'm still really, really sad.

- That I'm really excited about visiting Jack and Jos in NYC this weekend, even if it is going to be a short trip.

- That we are slowly beginning to pay off our debt. SLOWLY.

Anyhoo. That's all!
