I know this is insipid, but it's what you're getting.

So, I really love holiday music. Always have. It doesn't really matter what kind.... in fact, despite my very anti-religious beliefs, I LOVE religious Christmas music. Anyway.. even though the song is silly, vapid and maybe a wee bit chauvinistic, (depending on how seriously you take it) I have always loved the song "Santa Baby", as sung by Eartha Kitt.

Now that it's December, there is Christmas music on in my apartment almost every evening, while we bake and make cards and do other holiday related things. Last night, as we were getting ready to go to bed, "Santa Baby" came on in the living room. We use the Comcast 'Sounds of the Season' channel so that we aren't flipping through the same five CDs every evening. Anyway, so the song comes on, and at first I smiled and started humming along. As the song went on, though, I found myself frowning slightly, and then outright wincing. I knew that the version I was hearing was not Eartha Kitt, but dear lord was it grating. It was downright painful.

Finally, absolutely fed up with the terrible sounds coming from my TV, I went to see who was responsible for such an awful racket. You will never guess who it was.

MADONNA.

That's right folks. MADONNA was making an unholy racket by murdering a song that she was practically born to sing. It was so bad that had I not read it myself, I'd never have known it was Madonna! Suffice to say, I was very disappointed.

music, holidays
