What's in a name?

OK, I'm having a minor crisis here.

I'm writing an email to Pitt about setting up a phone interview for a job. I get to the end, and I don't know what to sign.

Should I be Margaret,
or Maggie?

See, this is another one of those crossroads in life where I feel like I have to make this decision about who I want to be, and how I want other people to see me. I decided to carry over Maggie from 8th grade Studio, because I had so much fun in that class and it was such a huge growing experience, that's just who I wanted to be. (It caught on more with my close friends than with teachers.) By 11th grade, everyone referred to me as Maggie, even Ms. Guilfoyle, whom I've had as a teacher since the beginning of highschool (Glanton eventually made the transition, haha). When I went to Cornell, it was a no-brainer to continue to go by Maggie. Maggie was fun, exciting, new... Margaret was the person my family knew (and everyone in my family to this day still calls me Margaret).

I'm wondering if in beginning my new professional life at grad school, I should start to go by Margaret again. It's just more business-like. I mean, I know I'll be evaluated on my skills and not my name, but names are an important part of a good first impression. I think, I'd probably rather ask for service from a librarian named Margaret. So, it sort of seems like a no-brainer.

However, as I think about the possibility of most people I know calling me Margaret, I feel kind of weird. I associate that name with my family, and I think the 'Margaret' I used to be (and still am at larger family functions) was pretty boring. I think I still will always use 'Maggie' while talking to friends, I just wonder if it will be OK to use Maggie among coworkers, advisors, etc... everything but patrons and people telephoning me and professionals from other libraries and such? Hmm. A quandry.

Please! your input is appreciated! Like I said, it's one of those things i shouldn't be so concerned about, but it feels like it's one of those 'big life decisions,' you know?
