not long for this world

When you subscribe to a community that is one portrait a day for 30 days, you suddenly find that your friends page goes on for a couple of clicks of the 'previous entry' button since you last read it. I gotta get to readin'.

I went to an awesome concert tonight. James Hunter (like a white James Brown with a little more 50s added in) and Martin Sexton (a combo of Dave Matthews and Jack Black, but that's a gross combination that doesn't really describe it at all). Martin Sexton is from Syracuse, an amazing vocalist and guitarist, and sang songs about driving down Route 20 in his VW Bug as a teenager, how it was an almost magical and liberating experience. Sound familiar?
Anyway, I caved and bought Sexton's live 2CD set. James Hunter will have to wait. Maybe I can convince my parents to buy that one and steal it from them. Ha!

The Ithaca Festival is going on. Holy crap, I've never seen the Commons so full. It makes me happy, because I think 'yeah. this non-corporate grassroots thing is real. It can work. And people can be happy about it!' Yay, I love Ithaca.

I went downtown with Andy. It's refreshing to hang out with someone outside of the standard group of 10 or so friends you mostly see. I'm glad he came with me! Seriously guys... everyone else missed out... it was totally awesome. And I got to have TEA and the amazing enormous cookies they got down there.
