I will make an update later today on the weekend away. I started one earlier but Firefox crapped out on me when opening a PDF.

So look back for an edited entry later.

EDIT

So, the weekend. Obviously started on thursday night for the first time EVER. I have never drunk alcohol on a non-Friday or Saturday before. So, we had Brian, Max, and Roger over (I'm sorry I didn't invite Dennis, he would have been fun too), and capered, and imbibed. The tap was flowing like crazy. It felt real nice. We need to have more micro-parties.

FRIDAY we left at like 10:30 (sue was late as always) for Yay-yul. Had a lot of time for lunch, went to the cheap pizza hut lunch buffet (it was the tiniest pizza hut ever). We got to New Haven, walked around a bit, then had the hockey game. The rink staff made us stop playing in the middle of a song before the game started, go outside, and tell us we could only have 25 band members in the stands, and told the rest of us to put it away. So we had a 25 person band that night. Those fucktards. And, since they were so busy enforcing rules when it came to the band, they let their band play crappy songs well into the start of play. Their band also had about twice as many people as us. But no, double standards are totally ok. The game... well, it was actually quite scary. We ended up winning, but not by as much as I would have liked. At the end there was a pretty big fight at the other end of the rink. One of those rare college hockey glove-dropping fights. It was exciting, but sad to know that some of our guys would get kicked out (I hope they had more of theirs get thrown out... Yale played dirty that night). Friday night's hotel party was less than spectacular, as people fell asleep pretty fast, but the Bryan Jolley Rancher was an excellent drink, and it needs to happen more often.

SATURDAY checked out of the hotel and drove to the Providence mall. Holy crap, that thing is big. 4 stories, expensive stores... monstrous. But noone wanted to go shopping - instead they all went to Dave and Busters, which is a huge restaurant/bar/arcade. Had a really nice lunch along with a $10 gamecard for $15, not bad. Then played games for too long, then got out as quickly as possible to go shopping (sadly, only for about an hour). The only store we spent any time in was Hot Topic (yeah, in a mall with a ton of cool shops, I went to the one store we have at our mall too, how lame.), BUT! I bought some awesome red/black converse for $20. hoo yeah. They're a little too narrow, but I can deal for that price.
The game. Again, the Brown rink manager told us we could only have 25 instruments (what? are they comparing notes??) so we had a tiny band again. He also gave us some bullshit about not saying 'RED!' during the national anthem because it was disrespectful to our country, but we also got that at North Country, Hickland SLU. Whatever, we complied but got blamed when the rest of the Cornell fans did it (surprised? hardly). The game was FAR too close, especially since Colgate beat them 5-0 the night before. (they also beat Yale 6-2 the following night) thank god we won. Why is our team having such a hard time, besides losing good scorers? it's like we're falling apart. Freshman year, don't come back! Dave McKee, don't let in so many goals!

A follow-up of the band's persecution: Upon close inspection of the NCAA rulebooks (the ECAC are nowhere to be found, if they exist), shows no limitations on band size. The only regulations relevant to us are not to play during gameplay (which almost all other hockey bands do, whether it be to finish their song after the puck is dropped, or to beat drums during bad cheers). The way I see it, the regulation is probably tucked away somewhere under tournament rules (which this is not), or under a different sport, like basketball, for which this would not apply. There's no reason why this should happen again, and it won't if I (and Lauren) have anything to say about it.

So, this week is going to be tough. Drum Major elections on Tuesday (they always make me want to stab myself, but I feel compelled to go to make an informed decision, and I dont' have to go to the one next year, fuck that), then a lot of regular work that all needs to be done by thursday because of the trip next weekend to Harvard. Oh, apparently we're having Bone Bacon/Corn Nugget Happy Hour that thursday. When will it be time for the Bone Techno Dance Party!?? I vote NOW.

hockey, band, drinks, roadtrip, shopping, weekend
