1)"primitive" or ancient culture/society motiff/imagery, sometimes with a psychedelic edge. (MGMT's Electric Feel and Time to Pretend, Of Montreal's Coquette Coquette, Empire of the Sun's We Are The People, etc)
2)Surrealism/Absurdity in music video or lyrics (MGMT's Flash Delirium, Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, et. al., Of Montreal's lyrics, etc)
3)Odd psychedelic imagery (many indie music videos)
4)Music conveys message of despair/distress with tinge of hope (MGMT), happy beats yet depressing subject matter (Of Montreal), retro-stylism (i.e. 60s pop and rock, etc), some sort of hipster pre-ocupation with the rigors of life or perspective on life, and/or (semi-)non-sensical lyrics
