What a crazy fourth session! I can't even remember all of it. But there were some highlights of activity... The Sunday church check-out/check-in was far more hectic than usual, as was the Friday early leaving rush. I yelled at a couple of girls for popping a tent-mate's blister with a needle, and distracting her by making her sniff nail polish remover. I went along in the ambulance because someone made a horrible choice that I shouldn't discuss in detail for confidentiality reasons, but it did involve the sheriff of the next town exclaiming, "Holy God, you need 911!" (which is what I had dialed, only they kept redirecting me)
I didn't get either of the teaching jobs I interviewed for over the summer. I haven't given up on teaching altogether, but I'm expanding my search. I had an interview with the Red Cross for an education position last week, which I think went well. I'll hear back about that next week (or the week after, at the latest). I have lots of other applications out to places like the Humane Society, the credit union near my house, and plenty more that I can't recall at the moment. I've been giving a lot of thought to my future, and whether I want to settle down and have my house full of animals, or whether I'd rather travel around teaching English and doing whatever other work I can find. I still don't know, but at least until mid-December (when I finish my Master's), I'll be sticking around St. Louis.
Late last week I drove up to Wisconsin with my friend from camp. We stayed at her parents' house for a few days while she unpacked from camp and packed for Antarctica, where she works for most of the year. I played with her cat a lot. They had a great big yard that was nice to walk around in. I had a surprise birthday party with her family, which I wasn't aware of until we reached the part in "Happy Birthday" where you say the name, and then it was mine, and I said, "Oh!" It was nice. I miss her a lot. It's been a long time since I had someone I felt as strong a connection as this to. After dropping her off at the airport, I spent a few hours wandering around Milwaukee. It was fun! Then I returned on the train, which was freezing cold but otherwise pleasant.
Today I had a dentist appointment, which was my mom's birthday present to me. It turns out that my teeth, fillings, and gums are in great shape, but I have two wisdom teeth that suddenly popped out of nowhere (since the last time I had a panoramic x-ray, years ago) up around my sinus cavities. They don't hurt, but it does explain the gradually increasing sinus issues I've been having in the past few years. The dentist recommended that I get a consultation about getting them removed once I'm employed and have insurance (as it would be astronomically expensive), but if they start to hurt, I'll need them out immediately. Hm.
After that I went to the Humane Society, where nothing really jumped out at me. Then I went to Kohls, because I've recently discovered the great deals on clearance bras there. After making my purchases, I walked out and couldn't find my car. Panicking, I walked around the lot a few times before going in to ask for the local police's number. As soon as they showed up, they found it parked around the corner, by the other entrance. So I felt pretty dumb, but apparently it happens a lot.
Then it was cooler, so I came home and watched a movie, and ate a late lunch. I went out for dinner with a friend, to the Thai place on Watson we like, and it was delicious. As usual, I have half of it for lunch tomorrow. Mmm!
