I'm almost at the end of my subbing job. My last day is tomorrow! I'm actually quite sad about leaving, I was really starting to bond with the kids. And we'd just gotten to the climax of Jane Eyre! Oh man... I'm thinking I'll go back and visit some time before the end of the year. But this means I'll go back to the voracious reading I get into when I'm unemployed, and hopefully the animal shelter clinic for a day or two per week, too!
Oh, among other adventures in subbing, I was asked to go on a field trip last Friday to see a play at a local theater with the freshmen and seniors. It was pretty good (the set was incredible), but the real excitement was the drive home. The bus tried to make a sharp turn, and the wheel locked. So we ended up kind of drifting over into oncoming traffic, then gradually over to the right side again, and finally onto the shoulder. We sat and waiting (there was lots of singing) for about half an hour before another bus could swing back to pick us up. It was fun!
I finally beat Spirit Tracks, after much struggling. Fun, but not demanding of the 20 instant replays that Phantom Hourglass was. Speaking of PH, I picked that up again, beat it in a day or three, and went back to Link to the Past, which I'm now in the mood for, and thus infinitely better at than I was the last time I picked it up.
I saw Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Saturday. I loved the plot (very American Gods (Neil Gaiman) for kids), though the portrayal wasn't too impressive all the time. I'm sure the book is better. I was thrilled to find that my nearest movie theater still does their $4 matinee once a week. I'm so seeing more movies now!
I also saw Alice in Wonderland on Sunday. Loved it! I know a lot of people go to see movies just for the actors, and thus assume that other people do, too. I'm not one of those people. I see movies for the plot and the characters. The fact that Johnny Depp plays multiple characters who intrigue me has earned him some grudging respect from me. Or possibly his casting director instead. I did love that Mad Hatter a great deal. And the Bandersnatch. And the White Rabbit. I enjoyed the Red Queen, too. Too bad about that ending... It was lame. So this has taken up at least a temporary residence in my head (which had been most recently filled with Discworld wizards, as you may have noticed). Probably not enough to write anything on it, but enough to think a lot about, anyway.
Thursday through Saturday I'm going to a camping convention up in Chicago with a handful of camp people. It should be ultra-fun! Then Monday and Tuesday I'm going to camp with a slightly different handful to paint the office and get some summer planning done. Unfortunately, I have class Monday night. I considered just skipping it, but I think I'll end up going up there and coming back down to camp afterwards. It'll be fine, I like the drive.
