So I have an excuse for my lengthy absence this time. Last Monday my computer screen just went black, and I couldn't get it to come back. So A coworker took me to a big computer... place a few subway stops away. I talked to a guy on the first floor, who sent me to an abandoned shop on the third floor. Then a guy on the second floor offered to try to help, but I'd forgotten my adapter plug. Crap. I ran back, got it, and returned. The guy then told me a few things in Korean, which amounted to "the light burned out in you monitor." Yes, I knew that. So he wrote me a note and sent me in a taxi to the HP service center. But the taxi dropped me off at a Samsung store! Oh no!!! The employee there pointed me to a nearby building and said "floor two." So I went to that building, the second floor. It was a restaurant. So I went back to Samsung. Another guy pointed to a different building, and told me it was under the Daewoo car place. I looked, and there was no such place. But luckily I found it on the sixth floor nearby. Hm. I went up, and with the aid of a translation program, the guy at the desk and I talked. He told me my backlight had burned out (yes, yes, I got that), and that they would have to order the part from Seoul. And gave me a price which was high, but not nearly as much as a new computer would be. Yes!! So it took a week and some money, but I have my computer back again. However, it made me realize that I'm working on a 6 year-old laptop which will be 7 by the time I get back to America. It's really time for something new. This one will get me through Korea, and then before I move out of my parents' house (which will be within a year of returning), I will get something newer. Any recommendations will be taken into account.
So. That's over with. In the meantime, I kept busy. I read. I played Pokemon. I watched TV. We had our monthly test days, which are always very relaxing. I had a few kids fail, but no one I didn't expect. I had at least one kid who I thought might fail do incredibly well. I love it when they study. Next week I should get my schedule for the next 3 months... I hope it's good! I hope I get good kids! I've got a few I never want to see again... but really, most of the ones I have are great, and I'll definitely miss them if I don't have them again.
Last weekend I met Nadia and we saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was good! Then we met Jenny and had ramyeon (ramen) for lunch. It was way spicy, and I really didn't care for it much. But it was fun. Then Jenny and I walked around a bit. On Tuesday I got some more grill panels and finally made an enclosure that's big enough for Ottogi, but one that he can't escape from. I'm rather pleased with the construction. The pieces weren't quite the size I's hoped, but I made it work. Ottogi likes it, and now he can get a little exercise when I'm not home, or before I wake up.
In other lagomorphic news, I got a perfect carrier for Ottogi... Just in time for his neutering tomorrow! It should work on the plane too! Last I checked, rabbits have to go in cargo, rather than carryon... Unfortunate. But the carrier I found is big enough to be... not terribly cramped, even when he gets bigger. It has a removable grate in the bottom so he won't be marinating in his own pee by the end of the trip, and the door is metal, which I'm hoping will foil most chewing.
And I need to start planning some short trips. I'm finding it kind of hard to do that. The making the effort part, that is. I'm thinking the Philippines and/or the Thailand/Southeast Asia area while it's cooler, then maybe Mongolia when it gets hot.
I made an awesome yogurty green curry last week, and some spicy soup and a potato-pepper mixture. This week I think it'll be soup and sandwiches. I also have some tuna, and some fish/veggie wafers in the freezer that I can eat if I get sick of something or run out too soon. And now and then I walk down to the takoyaki van! Mmm... But I've been making a perfect amount of food for a week, generally!
