Since Dutch lessons are a bit hard to come by here in Greensboro (although I've just come across a new group of people looking to get together to speak Dutch to each other here in the Triad area), G and I have bought the Rosetta Stone software to try and get some basics of the language. I have some issues with the program, but overall, it's fairly good. As with most things in our lives, G and I manage to make almost everything about our pets. Fortunately, hond (dog) and kat (cat) were two of the first words we learned. Every time the software has a human doing something, we inevitably practice it by having a dog or cat doing it. In other words, De vrouw rent (the woman runs), becomes de hond rent.
It's actually a useful way of practicing, because we can give a running commentary on what our pets are doing and describing our pets, thus giving us regular practice that actually fits our lives. This morning, after doing some verb tense practice, I got to try it out on Pippo and Lola as they were eating and then as I took Pippo outside to do his business. Thus, de hond heeft gepeeen. (Gepeeen being Dutchlish, as I don't know the verb "to pee" yet and my computer doesn't have umlauts, either.) I get confused when I start to check out the grammar book and see stuff about strong and weak and which ending to use with which, but at least for now I'm certainly getting a laugh out of learning!
In other news, G comes home today so I can see all of the pictures he took of the huis (house). Yay!
