Standing inside rotting away
Something inside of me has been taken away
Feeling my heart breaking in vain
It won't get better now
When will this end?
Indigo ran from Moody Gardens. Her eyes burned from the tears and her arms stung from all the small cuts her nails had made in her skin. She had only Sampson and Laylai in tow. She knew that she was leaving her mother and her uncle, and it hurt, but she had to leave.
She remembered the visions she had. The winding spirals in front of her eyes. The loud roaring of the Jabberwocky as it hunted her. She remember what had caused her Loa to scream and jolt her to leaving the Gardens. The Gardens were her haven from the storm that was always near.
I can't seem to get away
I feel I'm here so you can play
With my head
There's nothing I can say
I keep feeling like I'm to blame
When will this end?
Hopeless inside alone as I wait
Brewing inside of me enduring this hate
Feeling my heart breaking in vain
It won't get better now
When will this end?
It had been a long day. She remembered thinking about her father and her uncle, and their small war over her. She ran her fingers over the bar codes on her wrist. She remembered all the people she had lost in this fight. The more she though the more she missed the world as it was. She moved her hands in the mudras that Starfall had taught her she tried to reach back into her past, to see the things they had taken from her using the small bit of time she had learned.
The storm had come…. she had fought it… there were others like her, all with the black eyes… they looked at her, and for a second they thought she was one of them before she planted one of her axes into its skull. His allies seemed confused…. but so was she. She looked at the man, who looked so much like she did. His dead eyes stared back into hers as she knelt over the body. She touched his face in confusion. Everyone around her watched her movements, not wanting to approach her. She ran her fingers over the cooling flesh of his lips and turned to Starfall, “Like me?” He shook his head in the negative. The world became a blur as she gasp for air. She felt like she was drowning as the scene changed again.
I can't seem to get away
I feel I'm here so you can play
With my head
There's nothing I can say
I keep feeling like I'm to blame
When will this end?
Her Uncle was standing over her, “Now Indigo, why haven’t you read your lessons.” She snarled at him and shoved the book with the strange words back at him. Her silken dress wrapped around her carefully. All of her being told her nothing in the book was good… she shouldn’t be reading any of it, but it beckoned to her very soul. It sung to her, she could feel the words reverberating in her very essence. The blackness, the sneering, her handmaidens’ blood all over her face…. She could see them drifting into the black portal in front of her… she could still hear their voices in her head as their souls became one with the very blackness she feared so much.
Her cage… her body bound in the darkness of the church. She shook the bars, she pounded her small fist against them- all to no avail. Her magic dampened. Her Uncle knew her ban far too well. She tried to fight against the lullaby of the darkness but she could feel herself slipping further and further into its sirens song…. And the nausea in the pit of her stomach sent her reeling further into memories she didn’t want to remember.
The stress is rising and I can't seem to get away from you
You're always trying and the lying always shines right thru
My God I hate this
Always take shit
Can I let this go on?
Why can't I break this
I just take this
As this goes on and on
She looked over and saw Starfall his sleeping form in front of her when she heard a familiar voice in her head. “You only see what you want to see. See what we see…”
And her body went tense and she tried to scream but something held her fast in place. She saw Starfall, his weapon in hand, blood pooling on the floor beneath him. Ebony and Abbadon at his feet, their bodies ripped from limb to limb… as her eyes grew wide she could see Twilight and Dagon, Sevens and Jessica. Starfall reached his hand out to her, “They were going to kill you… they would have hurt you… I had to protect you….” She looked at her own blood covered hands her mind whirling in confusion. Bodies she didn’t know lay before her feet. He continued, “It’s your destiny… stop fighting and we could rule the world…” She stared at him in confusion. Tears streamed down her face, “No… always fight… never stop…” She heard Starfall’s soft laugh, “No… it’s okay now, they were right, you are the abyss’ chosen… they were right all along.”
With that Indigo bolted upright her mind reeling Kalfu screaming in her head. Her body ached as she called for Sampson and Laylai. They ran to her as she opened the portal her whole body pulsing with the paradox she had just taken to her small frame. Then there was darkness and she felt the cool fur of the pelt under her. Laylai and Sampson growling as something joined them in the room they were now in. The strange dead thing loomed over her for just a moment before she growled and it scampered back from her like a wounded animal.
She lay on the floor whimpering softly for Abbadon.
Somewhere someone laughed. Somewhere someone knew what had happened.
And the small prophet knew not that she had changed. She knew not that her very soul had been molded once again by the darkness she feared so much.
End
When will this end?
I can't seem to get away
I feel I'm here so you can play
With my head
There's nothing I can say
I keep feeling like I'm to blame
When will this end?
