Inspiration

So, I find that music is a huge force in my life. Now, this isn't a recent realization or anything like that, but I've never really commented on it before. The great thing about the internet is that it allows everyone to make the kind of music that they want AND distribute it. People have been writing songs about random shit for years, but it was never widely heard before recently unless it was backed by a major record label. And the decentralization of power in the record industry has everything to do with the internet (See RIAA vs. Napster).

A new genre that I have come to embrace is called Nerdcore. "Quite frankly, the feelings fucking fantastic, I'm tripping like jesus in the desert when he fasted." Nerdcore is a style of music that is generally derived from hip-hop. In fact, a lot of nerdcore could be mistaken for popular hip-hop-until you take the time to listen to the lyrics. Generally speaking, the successful nerdcore artists/groups have very well though out lyrics, dealing with, well, the nerd culture. For a prime example of this, see Optimus Rhyme. Try a song like "Obey the Moderator".  Anyone that spent any time on a forum will get that one. Nerdcore isn't just limited to the nerdy and wacky, though. I found a great bit of personal inspiration from another Optimus Rhyme song, "Just Forget it".

I spot the ex-wife in the dreams sometimes
She says "Wheelie, you never call me, why?"
I tried emailing, you never reply
It always seems like she is doing alright
But in real life, I got dumped for a junkie
It kinda sucked, but I guess he gave her something
I never did, it was a needle and an exit
When she finally left it was far from unexpected
Bottom line, people change all the time
It's strange, but today, man, you know I don't mind
In fact, I was stoked by the time that I packed
Like I woke from a bad dream, never looking back
And, honestly, I wasn't innocent in this
I should have been the one to say "you wanna finish this?"
I couldn't, she could, didn't argue or shout
Into the sunset, happy that I'm out

Even if your not in to the hip-hop sound, I suggest giving this genre a try. Check out Optimus Rhyme, MC Lars, MC Frontalot, MC Chris, Game Over, The Minibosses, ect.
