A few weeks back, I bought myself a lovely graduation present: The 46" Sony XBR2:
Now the funny thing about making a big TV purchase is that you end up doing a ton of research, looking at different sets in different situations and generally becoming an obsessive videophile. So while my set is producing an amazing picture, I'm now fiddling with the display settings way more than I used to. I'll be watching a HD baseball broadcast and think "Hey, those Cardinals jerseys in the crowd look a little washed out, I must tweak the Red-Gain". Will I converge on the perfect settings, or am I doomed to forever tweak? Ignorance is bliss as they say.
One phenomenon I've noticed is that if I play with the settings for too long in one sitting, I end up talking myself into some odd colour choices... Then when I look at the TV after leaving it for 30-45 minutes, I will be totally confused with my choices. Human colour perception (or at least MY colour perception) seems to be a bit of a moving target. For best results, I now make one tweak at a time, then re-evalute later. I seem very close to converging now.
Interestingly enough, when I was obsessively reading about XBR2 settings of random internet videophiles on AVSForum, I saw SE06 Tom posting. Apparently I am not the only recent Waterloo SE graduate obsessing over these settings!
Company Meeting tomorrow at Safeco/Qwest fields. Time for sleep.
