The idea that the job is open to anybody is just bullshit. Of course on the surface it has to seem that way by law, but there are so many obstacles and stereotypes built into the system that it just isn't the reality.
A child isn't an excuse, it's a human being and a fact of life for 83% of women. Countries all over the world that we consider ourselves better than have family-friendly national policies that don't penalize women for having children.
Oh...totally unrelated, I was channel surfing while waiting for dinner to be done last night and caught Karen on Will & Grace saying, "I like Filipinos. They're asian but they're not cocky about it." All I could think was, "Well she doesn't know Jeremy."
