so i'm flipping through Much Music today and it seems they have some sort of 90's video show. i guess they're try to start a nostalgic fad like the resurgence of 80's music during the mid 1990's. it's 2004 you know.
anyways, i'm watching these videos and they have little info blurbs at the bottom of the screen. stuff that goes like this: Band X formed in the late 80's and recorded a lo-fi demo that attracted Universal reps and quickly signed and recorded they're multi platinum debut etc etc.
crazy thing is at the end of these blurbs in each video, the last blurb would be "and you can find Band X singing this song on Big Shiny Tunes 90's"
it seemed that the whole show was an ad to sell this fucking shit compilation.
since i grew up with commercial alt rock in the 90's, i find it odd and disappointing to see bands that i liked broken down as one hit wonders, discarding their records, leaving only the one apparent "good song". granted bands like Collective Soul sucked always, but i liked the Cardigans and Depeche Mode.
anyhow, the music industry is shit. read books.
