When I first heard this song I heard all of the times I've left Los Angeles burning and dying in the rear view mirror headed north.
It's listening to thunder outside and the wind tease the chimes in the trees. It is my coming home to food that's never been in plastic, laundry that smells of sunshine, unpaved roads, water that tastes sweet and comes straight from the ground, flowers that grow without sprinklers and dogs that don't have to wear leashes, policemen who could never find my address if they tried, open land, warm smiles and good, honest friends that I miss dearly.
Radical Face- "Welcome Home"
http://www.radicalface.com/radicalface.html It has this calm atop subdued tension that I remember being in every molecule of my body as I left my little town from high school determined to never come back. The leaping desire to escape, while knowing you may never find anything that fits you better than this.
