That was the old me.

I like the new Death Cab album, I can't stop listening to it. It is (a) very different (b) very pop (c) less complex (d) a transitional record. Want a good analogy: Goo by Sonic Youth. A band who are trying things differently on a whole range of levels, even if they don't explicitly realise/acknowledge it.

The next record will probably be better. If they could marry past and present, they'd be unstoppable. The production is beautiful too. I love how sacrilegious they are with their music...even Ben's vocals and Chris's guitar work are bent and manipulated this time round. Fucking with your core business is not for the faint of heart but it is what good bands do to become better bands. You can't repeat yourself, it's just not on. I'd rather hear them suck than hear Trans... Part Two. In many ways, what I like about them most is that every album is a distinct era.

The first album was pop.
The second album was all lyrics and lead guitar.
The third album was all jams.
The fourth album was all of the above on one album.
The new album is...I dunno yet.
