a bit of both actually. but they sound more convincing in estonian (she's got a small accent)..
you know what, they have this song, one version of it is in estonian, the other is in english, i'll upload it for you and you can listen to them yourself =)
agent m- shokolaad- the estonian version, titled 'shokolaad' or 'chocolate' in english. it's pretty much about like people not being happy about who they are and that they should just accept it and not try to run away.
agent m- perfect world- the english version of the same song. from what i know, this was the original version of this song and it was translated to estonian. the meaning is a bit different, but not that much =)
oh, and as an added bonus, here's a picture of them- HERE just so you'd know who you're listening to =P

oh.. and now you must think i'm crazy, but they actually made a video for that song as well (it's animated, but cute) and if you want to watch it, it's HERE (let me know, if the link doesn't work or something..)

and don't worry, if you don't like it. i mean i just recently got into them myself and just because i like them doesn't mean everyone else has to as well =)

and the icon you made is adorable!

Oh thanks a lot. I downloaded them both. How very nice of you.
And thanks for the pic, too. I'd probably end up Googling for them anyway. I hate listening to the band without knowing how they look. Haha! :D

The link works, too. No worries. ;)

i mean i just recently got into them myself and just because i like them doesn't mean everyone else has to as well.
Heh. I know. Don't worry. I love discovering new stuff. (As long as they're not from here. I'm so anti-patriotic it's not even funny.)
I'm extremely loyal. I'm not one of those people who will abandon bands they listened to like 3 years ago and start obsessing over new ones. I'm still listening and loving all the bands that got me into this kind of music around 2001/2002. But I'm also on the top of most of the new stuff as well. :P

and the icon you made is adorable!
Oh wow. Thank you. That means a lot to me.
I so didn't expect to hear something like that because *I* actually like it. And icons I like usually don't get good feedback. We already talked about that. :D
So thanks a lot! ♥

haha, well, enjoy and now you don't have to worry too much about what they look like!
=P

but the deal with this band actually is, that one of my friends has a huge crush on the drummer (the one in the red/pink/orange sweat-shirt). lol. the drummer is actually a tattoo-artist and she went and got tattoos done by him so that's how she 'found out' about them. and so she really got into their music and some of it rubbed off on me =)

and yeah, i love new stuff, but sometimes i just get fed up of listening to some artists. like right now i don't want to hear a single coldplay song, even though i used to only listen to them =). but i'm slowly starting to miss them again =)
but for example when a band either disappears or does nothing interesting after a while, then i kind of start to drift away. i mean for example when the calling (maybe you know them) first came out with 'camino palermo', seriously, it was my favourite album ever and ever, but after i heard their second album and realized, that they haven't 'grown' or evolved, they pretty much stayed the same, then i kind of lost interest. now i haven't listened to them quite some time. but yeah, i mostly stay true to my favourites as well (keane, arctic monkeys, muse, was, the automatic, snow patrol and i guess maximo park as well) i just sometimes discover new bands and then i don't really have time to listen to everyone o.0

and i should say, that my music taste has changed a bit with time. i mean from pop-rock to complete indie rock all the way!
but i still have a soft spot for a few pretty britpop tunes =)

and i usually can tell if an icon has a chance of winning or not, but just recently i've really started to doubt my abilities. but let's just hope yours won't get voted out (because it's way prettier than mine for one)

lol, if only the entries in my journal were this long!!

Oh that's a nice story. It was sort of a personal introduction with the band, huh?! I actually like the songs. A lot. Thanks for uploading. :)

Well, I'm definitely most loyal to The Strokes. (I'm listening to lots of different bands.) But I guess everyone has that ONE band they will always be loyal to. I have to say I didn't like when FIOE was out and all those fans who forgot about them in the past year were like starting to spazz all over them again. I just felt kinda hurt. Because I didn't forget them for one single second. I was always writing about them in my LJ, for that whole year. Even though there were no news, no new pics or anything, but they were always on my mind. And it'll be the same again, I just know it. They stopped touring now and it'll be a long break till the next album. (Except for Albert doing his own thing. Haha. He's great! :D) And so many people will, as you said, drift away, but I won't... and it's just weird. I always feel different from the rest of the fans, but The Strokes see us all the same, I guess. Whatever. [/endrant]

I don't really know how to define my music taste change. I used to listen to older bands mostly. From the 60s and 70s. In the 90s there was a very small number of bands I liked. And then after 2001/2002 I got into a whole lot of those new bands that are making the same kind of music like those old bands I've been listening to before. So I guess the only change now is that I listen to both old and new bands. Haha!

I'm completely clueless at the moment. I got two negative votes the first week, and nothing at all the last week... what will happen this time, I have no idea! xD I actually don't like the icons that much anyway. I was rather disappointed by most of them this time. :/

cool, i'm glad you liked it =) i really love the beat to that song and it's kind of cute.

yeah. i know that feeling. and actually, i have to admit, if i had to choose just one favourite band, it would be too hard for me. i mean i am not ONLY a fan of arctic monkeys or keane or any of the other ands i mentioned before (and actually, i think most AM fans hate keane =S). i just like them all. and i guess i don't have that feeling for music. but i do however feel that way about dominic monaghan. i mean i know the dude is not the best actor in the world but he's damn cute and i love his whole attitude about life and stuff, so no matter what, thick or thin, i'll be a loyal fan till the end =) and i'm actually proud, because i can say that i've been a fan for such a long time. right now there are so many 'new' fans, who found out about him from 'lost', so it kind of annoys me, that they don't give a rats ass about lotr, which i think was brilliant.

actually, i found out about some of my favourite bands thanks to dom (how lame is that, right?) like keane for example, because i used to hate them when they came out, but then i actually gave a good listen to them and see where that has gotten me now? hehe. but about a few years ago i just went crazy and downloaded almost ever band i could find using last.fm and it's tags! hehe. so that's how i got acquainted with the indie scene. and i loved it, because i found so many good bands that i had no idea existed, it was really cool. but now i'm kind of starting to feel like there's nothing to listen to again =) and i actually didn't know much about the strokes before hearing FIOE. i only knew 'last nite' =)

haha, well i know what's going on with the votes! but i'm not going to tell you! hehe. well, i can't can i?.. the only thin is that there are so many ties..

I noticed that. I'm not a huge fan of neither LOTR nor Lost, but I know about the guy for years, because of the LOTR movies, and I noticed lots of people are getting into him now because of Lost. Well, it's the same feeling for us who are more into music with new fans spazzing over your fav band you loved and supported for years. It's really annoying. And that's interesting that you got into certain kind of music thanks to Dom. Because I used to be a lot more into movies, in my teenage years, because as I told you, there weren't too many bands at that time I really liked. I was all about films, actors and stuff like that, but I was never getting into the music according to them. I was so interested to know what they're listening to, but if it's something I didn't like, I'd be like "Ewwww. He's listening to THAT?" LOL And it's interesting now that I'm actually growing to like some actors when I find out we have similar taste in music. But never the other way around, if you know what I mean. xD

Oh so you're a fairly new Strokes fan, too. Awwww. Too bad. Seriously. I mean, it's always a wonderful thing being a Strokes fan, but being into them back into 2002 or something was really something special. I still live off of those feelings. It's hard to explain. Haha! And yeah, Last.fm is REALLY good for discovering/checking out new music.

Oof! About me being voted off, we can talk now since it's over... I'm really hurt. I really didn't expect it with THIS icon. I always look at the poll and think my icon is the worst. I'm so self-critical. Last week I was actually expecting to see my icon being voted off. But this time... it never happened to me before, I swear. I still look at that poll and I don't like any of the icons comparing to mine. It's weird. I don't see anything wrong with it. On contrary, it kinda stands out amongst others. But then, maybe that 'standing-out' effect made people vote it off. I don't know... I'm just completely surprised. I wouldn't be any other week, I'm sure. But this week, with THIS icon... I don't even know what to say... *fucks off*

yeah, lol. but right now i find his taste in music a bit too mellow. but i have him to thank for finding out about bands like death cab for cutie, the postal service, the stone roses, the smiths, and the beatles of course (though i knew them before- who doesn't, right?- but now i actually know about them).. and.. umm.. can't remember any other right now.. oh, world without sundays maybe.
these days i usually just see random names somewhere or see some people listening to stuff and then i get interested and try to check those artists out, and that's how i expand my 'musical horizon'. i also want to hear the bands that inspire my favourite bands. new or old.
and i kind of hate new fans. because they always ask silly and pointless questions about stuff everyone else already knows instead of looking up answers for themselves.. well, i guess i was the same at first, but that's not the point ;P

oh yeah, last.fm rocks! hehe.

ooooooooohhh, i was so sad to see you being voted off, i mean seriously, imo there were icons even worse.. and i thought that i was a goner this time, because it was so hard to make a decent icon of that pic! really. i had another version, but it looked even uglier and it had just one girl on it.. so i ended up going with this one..
but then again, somebody has to go.
also, i'm actually hoping to get voted off soon, because it would be really weird, if i actually won =S
not that it's ever going to happen..

but right now i find his taste in music a bit too mellow.
I know exactly what you mean. I feel the same about Ewan McGregor. I think he should expand his music horizons in a bit more indie direction. LOL Look at us telling them what to do. :P But still, I was like SO excited when I heard Ewan and Kirsten Dunst (she's so indie, too. I love her.) were at that Hennessy Artistry party/concert/whatever in October. I just KNEW they were there to see The Strokes play. They probably left afterwords when Kanye West came out on stage. Haha! *wishful thinking*

and the beatles of course (though i knew them before- who doesn't, right?- but now i actually know about them)
I SO know what you mean by that, too. I LOVE The Beatles. When it comes to the music, to me it's all about The Strokes and The Beatles. That's what I call THE MUSIC. My parents are HUGE Rolling Stones fans and didn't listen to the Beatles that much. I was brought up on the Rolling Stones music, and when I started forming a music taste on my own, I was a bit pissed at them for not introducing me with The Beatles before. WTF?! I don't even LIKE the Rolling Stones now comparing to the Beatles. Sorry parents!

i also want to hear the bands that inspire my favourite bands. new or old.
Definitely. Thanks to the Strokes I started listening to the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Ramones, The Clash, etc, etc. I'm so fucking grateful for that. I don't know what would I do without my music. Seriously. People who are listening to the new music ONLY are ... okay, I won't offend! X'D

and i kind of hate new fans. because they always ask silly and pointless questions about stuff everyone else already knows instead of looking up answers for themselves...
AMEN. That's what I ALWAYS say. (YOU RULE!) That's EXACTLY what annoys me about new fans. All those stupid questions we went past like years ago. Jesus! But not ALL the new fans are like that. Some people really start discovering things on their own. I know I'm not like that when I just get into some band. But MAN, some people are annoying or what?!

I really like your icons. Seriously. I don't even recognize they're yours, but I end up voting for them. LOL Well yes, someone had to go, but it's a bit of a disgrace that a couple of people on there stayed longer than me. *cough* And I've noticed you've been feeling, okay I won't say 'embarrassed', but a bit awkward and bad that I got voted off, and I was telling that to my friend Cat. That was really cute of you, but you shouldn't. It's not your fault. I know you liked my icon. I even told Cat I actually thought you'd choose my icon for Mod's Choice this time. xD But I guess you couldn't since I got sacked. LOL

haha, i actually have no idea what kind of music ewan listens to =) even though i'm a fan of his and he's one of the most talented actors/singers out there. i mean i so dig all the moulin rouge songs! *sigh*

oh yeah, the beatles over rolling stones anytime.. i'm not really a fan of classic rock (rolling stones, aerosmith etc, though queen has some cool songs..) so it's the beatles all the way for me!!!!!!

oh yeah, david bowie. mm. i actually started listening to him because i saw someone on last.fm talking about how good the songs are etc, and i thought- why not? =)
and ramones & the clash- there is no music without them.. seriously.

oh yeah, i mean sometimes i see people asking the easiest and dumbest questions someone can ever ask. and that happens in any fandom. i mean when i usually have a problem/question, i try to do as much research as i can, because in the process i also find out other new and interesting things. i don't run straight to some fan-forum and ask the same question that has been asked 10 000 000 times..

aww, thanks. yours aren't half bad either =)
and you know it's really hard to have people who i talk to or 'know' participating in my icon communities.. because i never know how to act. so i just try to stay as neutral as i can =) and yeah, of course i feel bad for the fact, that you got voted off, but i know that there's nothing i can do about it, because the people voted that way and that's their choice. and actually this picture was quite a hard one, so i don't blame anyone for the lack of really *amazing* icons.
so, like i said before (somewhere, lol) it's just a game and i know it's tough being voted off, but seriously, life will go on! =) and i'm sure you'll do better the next round!
and also, for mod's choice, i often don't remember whose icons are which.. so i pick according to the quality and all those factors, what appeals to me the best. i mean yeah, sometimes i feel a bit guilty for choosing someone i know (like for example mangopeels has gotten mod's choice twice), but seriously, that's just because i like the icons, i'd never choose someone who i know even though the icon might be UG-LY.. =)

Ewan is all about rock'n'roll. But he's mostly listening to stuff like Stereophonics, Blur, Radiohead, Coldplay, etc. He should explore a bit rawer sounds as well. He's better than most other actors into hip hop and all that. LOL But I find his taste a bit too mainstream rock, if you know what I mean.

rolling stones, aerosmith etc, though queen has some cool songs... so it's the beatles all the way for me!!!!!!
Same here. Aerosmith. Eeeek. :/

ramones & the clash- there is no music without them.. seriously.
AMEN. I actually stumbled upon a couple of people on LJ who are listening to like MCR, FOB, P!ATD and stuff, and they actually say on their info pages like "I can listen to lots of different kinds of music, but I don't listen to the old crap." Jesus. Don't you just wish you could LJ!slap someone!?

I'm always finding out most things on my own. I actually feel bad and embarrassed bothering other people. :">

You shouldn't worry about that. You should just look at the icons themselves and see if you like them or not, whether you know the maker or not, and it seems to me that you're doing that, which is good. But you know, sometimes you get used to someone's style if you're friends and seeing each other's icons all the time. So you're subconsciously biased, know what I mean?! You always go with that person's icon because you're familiar with her/his style. It's all so complicated. :P

oh, that's good then. and even though i don't have anything against stereophonics, blur, radiohead or coldplay they will get a little dull after listening them for a long time. so he really should find something with a bit of kick, you know?

oh yeah. i mean if you can fit your fist in the lead singers mouth, it doesn't make the band more interesting, just weird..

damn, oh yeah. i mean MCR, FOB and P!ATD are (to me at least) all the same. i mean i do listen to panic! sometimes and 'dance, dance' (by fob) is pretty good, but still. they're nothing special. i mean i have this thing where i hate some bands, because they are ALL the same. like for example dashboard confessional, phantom planet, green day and all the bands like them (can't really remember any others right now).. and you can add p!atd and fob to that list as well. i mean they all make the same kind of music and sound the same without bringing anything new. and most of them are posers as well.. imo at least.

yeah, i agree. i don't want to seem stupid..

yeah, well i usually try to compare icons to each other and see what stands out and what doesn't. also the quality and text/textures etc. used and the overall appearance of the icons.
also, i read somewhere, where you were talking to someone else, that you'd never vote off one of nialish's icons, because they're pretty and you can spot them a mile away. well, i agree with that, but at the same time i feel like that style is getting old. i mean i'd never vote them off either, because they're pretty and have a great quality, but the fact that i don't like is, that everyone can tell they're hers.. so that kind of bugs me. i mean i try to do something new every time.. weather it works or not..
but i guess that's the problem with good icon makers- they have such distinctive styles, that it's not hard to tell theirs apart =P

Exactly.

if you can fit your fist in the lead singers mouth, it doesn't make the band more interesting, just weird.
Hahahahaha!!!! *dies* It just makes me punch him in the mouth. LOL

Totally AMEN to that whole paragraph. I just hate them with passion. I wouldn't listen to them if someone payed me for it. I'm a very strict with myself when it comes to those things. If I hate someone, I hate him and that's it. I don't hate people, though. I don't like to hate someone. I prefer to use the word DISLIKE. But when it comes to bands/music, I really HATE some shit. As that one member of the Monkees once said? "What do I think of RAP? Just put a C in front." LOL

Once again. EXACTLY. I was like apologizing in one of my latest posts in my Icon Journal because all of my icons seem so random. Like every single one has completely different style. And then lots of people told me they actually like it better than people who are posting the themed entries. You know, all the icons looking in the same style. It's weird. Once again, different people, different tastes. xD

LOL, well, i wouldn't blame you, if you did!

yeah, i mean people, grow! expand your taste! make a difference! don't be the same!!!!!! oh, lostprophets is another band like that. it's like a whole subgenre of 'bands who don't do anything special'..

yeah, i love icons that start trends and are innovative and fresh. when i feel really creative, some of my icons come out pretty cool, but usually i just stick with different colouring.. i think i'm pretty bad at blending images or using anything else besides colouring and text..

*does it* *feels good* LOL

it's like a whole subgenre of 'bands who don't do anything special'
Yeah. And they foolishly think THAT's why they're special.
I just found out that Blender put MCR's album as #1 on their Top 50 Best Albums of 2006. And they wrote like "MCR... who made the classic rock'n'roll record." I'm like LOL WTF?! here. I talked about this with someone before, I think. All of those bands have songs that sound like mash-ups of 5 different songs. Know what I mean? As opposed to bands we're listening to, where each song is the creative outburst in one piece. Those bands' songs really sound as if they've been just coming up with anything they could, and put it in one song. It makes you wonder why they chose that particular combination for that particular song. I'm not making sense... But their music is not making any sense either.

I love to see new trends and choose what I like of those things and use for my own icons. But I never copy things entirely. It all depends on the phase, too, I think. I had a phase this summer when I was blending images a lot. And now I don't do it at all.

Reply

arbuus December 26 2006, 21:54:48 UTC
LOL.

OH, i so know what you mean. i don't remember, if i've told you this before or someone else, but anyway, i used to like the calling. around the time their first album came out, they were the best! i still love that album, but when their second album came out i listened to it and it was nothing special. i mean they hadn't grown almost at all, so i didn't find it as appealing anymore.
so i think it's way better if bands actually try to broaden their 'musical horizon' and explore new sounds. not stay with the same thing for ages and give out records and sit comfortably on the fame they've established..

yeah, i know what you mean! i sometimes see an icon and when i really like it i try to copy it, but i but something of my own in the mix, something that i think the original icon is lacking. so sometimes i get this creative mood and then i experiment, for the other part i just use colouring. for example the latest icon post i made here- you can clearly see, the heroes icons for example were made a long time ago and they're really creative (in my opinion at least, lol) but for example 47-52 are so ugly that i can't even stand looking at them. they're too yellow and i had no idea what i was doing, when i made them =)

whitestroke December 28 2006, 04:24:58 UTC
Yes. You were telling me that about The Calling.
See, the problem with that type of commercial rock bands is that their sound is way too produced, which makes it very thick and buff, and they all sound the same. Indie bands have a very raw sound which makes not only every band have a different touch to their music, but even every song of each band has something different to it. Because the sound is so stripped-down, and it's driven by the melody and the rhythm and nothing beyond that. You can listen to the whole albums of those bands without skipping. Fucking quality music, and versatile sonically, too. Every single song could be a single. And we all know all the songs from their records. These crass bands we're discussing, they're no better than Britney Spears and such. They manage to make a couple of catchy songs that will be singles, the rest of it on the album is just pure shit. Fillers-overload. And it's not like anyone cares. Those bands ARE created to just make money off the singles, and not to play live for fans who will know the words to their every single song.

Oh I like ALL of those icons. It's amazing. I HATE when my icons turn out too yellow. But I like them when I see other people's icons like that. The grass is always greener, you know... ;D
I like your graphic work in general. You're so much better than me!
