Argh!

I was watching a little late night TV, and naturally one show finished, giving way to another.

The latter was about animal intelligence, whether animals are smart or not. I thought I'd give it a chance, maybe, just maybe there might be some real thinking going on before they started the usual nonsense of trying to put animals on an equal intelligence level with people like so many shows have done in the past.

It started off good, with the observation that dogs learn by trial and error. But when they got to the nutcrackers and ravens, they concluded the birds used insight and good memory to get their food. Uhm - people - ever heard of animals relying on other senses like smell and sound!? And as for road maps, what about sensing changes in magnetic fields and atmosphere!? Noooo - birds apparently rely totally on their fantastic memories and whit to - find all the nuts they buried (nutcrackers,) find all the nectar-filled flowers (hummingbirds,) and steal fish off a line (ravens.)

Then they started in with this crap about chimps 'making tools' and I just about hurled when Jane (I'm special enough to play with the chimps and the rest of you are not) Goodall, supporter of the exotic pet killing, dog breeder-hating, anti-human and pro-animal rights H$U$ came on.

That clinched it, this show was crap. I hit the off button in record time.

I will never be convinced that tearing apart a tree branch and sticking it into a hole to catch bugs is 'making tools'. Not until a chimp makes a hammer or screw driver am I going to be convinced they can make tools and their intelligence level is the same as that of humans. But the purpose of that show is obviously ar propaganda designed to make uninformed people go "WOW! These animals are sooooo smart, they're just like humans!"

Not buying that pile of B.S. over here. Ever notice in shows like that how they go on about "In the past, we used to think (insert intelligence type here) was exclusively human." as if thinking that was some sort of outmoded bad thing - please! "Now, we see the animals ar as smart as we are and we are no different, we are equal to them!"

Argh! It's this kind of junk that is corroding our rights away bit by bit, and so many people just don't see it!

That's my rant for tonight.
