Well well well, I'm back from my camping trip and I'm very very tired. I covered for my coworker today at Corbin so I was at the desk all day. Working the day shifts is great because in the morning's no one's there and I get to read read read...and it sucks because right when I'm at the part where the main character is in a dire situation, BAM! the customers start rollllllin' on in. Working the desk, I'm amazed more and more by how little people know about bowling. I mean, people come in and say "hey I want to bowl." And so I say how many games? Then they say, "well, I don't know, how does this work?" Well...I mean, you must have SOME vague idea of how it works if you want to bowl, right? So I explain the payment rates to them and some people just can't get through their heads what the hell is going on..,I mean people have actually asked me if they're supposed to throw the ball down the middle or if they should roll it down the gutter. I mean, that's like me getting a bunch of people together and saying "OK! Let's go play some baseball!" So we go to a basketball court and then stand there and say "Ok, so...how does this work?"
Besides stupid people, the other kind of people I run into are just the assholes...and people who think I'm trying to rip them off. Not to mention the people who try to rip ME off. The good thing about working the desk, however, is that I determine who bowls on what lane...so all of the families with annoying kids, I put on the far left of the alley...the annoying teenagers I put on the far right...and the hot babes with little to no clothing I put on lane 11, RIGHT in front of the desk.
Weird things happen to me at work, as well...people ask me if I sell drugs on the side, people say the STRANGEST things to me out of nowhere, someone tried to sell me knives once, one time an apple got stuck in the toilet and we had to practically evacuate the building...and once a girl tricked me into looking at her recently-dyed pubic hair.
The highlight of working at the bowling alley, though (besides being able to bowl for free), are the kids at the birthday parties. On the weekends I'm in charge of running the birthday parties and let me tell you...the adults in those parties can be assholes...but the kids can be amazing. Like today, after I worked the desk I had a party for this little girl names Sara, turning 11. She and her friends were so funny and through the whole party they were laughing and joking with me and one of the boys taped a balloon on my back and then it became like the joke for everyone to put a balloon on my back and it was just fun. Then the parents offered me cake and the kids wanted me to sit with them to have cake and everything. And then a little boy (Sara's brother) got a papercut with his finger and I got some ice for him and then put a band-aid on him and afterwards I told him that the bandaid would make him feel better and he gave me a hug. Cheesey, yes...but pretty cool.
And the absolute BEST thing about working at Corbin...THE STAR WARS CHARACTERS ARE COMING BACK ON OCT. 29TH!!!!! It will be the happiest day in recent memory.
