My sister's moving around a little better, she still looks like hell, though. I'm not sure if she's taking the pain pills they sent her home with anymore, but whatever she's on it must be some good shit. The other night after Vince and I came back from the Bronze I was gonna go downstairs for a glass of water, when I overheard her talking to him. ( Read more... )

What the hell is she talking about? "What do you mean, again?"

Christ, this wasn't how I wanted this to go. "Nothing. I didn't mean anything by it."

"Yes you did, you don't say stuff you don't mean, Iz. So what did you mean?" She's not getting off that easy.

I put the cover in the food and turn down the heat under it then I sit down. "I didn't leave you guys by choice, the first time. I was sent to live with Grams. I didn't want to go. But I got to see you all when Dad brought you into town. Then I did do something selfish, and I wasn't allowed to see you, talk to, write you, anything. It was a long time before I was, by then you all had your own lives, you didn't need me anymore."

What the hell? "That's not what Daddy told us, he said you had decided you didn't want anything to do with us." I sit down across from her and look at her sadly. "I've always needed you, Iz, you're my sister."

"Well, Dad had he reasons for telling you what he did. But I never would have left you guys by choice. You guys were everything to me." I cant help but start to tear up, twice in the same week I am brought to tears. "I've always needed you too, sweetie."

I can't help but start to cry a little, too. "What good reason could he have for keeping you away from us? Damnit, we needed you to be our sister, there's no good reason to keep you away from us!"
I come around the island and hug her gently. "Daddy can't keep us from talking or seeing each other now, Iz. I just want you to be my sister again. Don't make me go back to New York."

"I dont think he meant it to be forever, sweets. It wasn't until I got engaged that I was cut off from you guys. And thats is because I had chosen someone unsuitable to marry. Well that and Grams had already arranged for someone else for me to marry. I was bann..disowned. He had no choice really either."

I sigh heavily, I don't want to send her away."India, as much as I want you here, it's still way too dangerous. I rather send you away and have you hate me than let you get hurt or worse"

"That's a stupid ass reason, Iz. You should be able to marry whoever you want, this is the 21st century, not the 18th."

I go back to sitting across from her. "And why is this town so dangerous? Tell me, quit saying it just is, and tell me, please?"

"We come from people that still are set in some seriously old ways. Marrying Jamie, a gadje equals bannishment. And no legally I don't have to marry Stefan, but as far as the family is concerned if I don't that could mean another bannishment too. Whereas me, I'm not sure I ever want to get married, at all."

"I don't think you would believe me even if I did tell you the truth about this town." ugh, how to say this."Straight up? It sits on a Hellmouth, vampires and demons walk about here freely. Of my two dearest friends in this town, one is a vampire and the other is a demon."

I roll my eyes at her. "Oh, that Gypsy stuff Daddy occasionally talked about. And wait, you were arranged to marry Stefan? Oh my God, how funny is that? And hey, at least you got someone hot and that you actually like."

Suddenly I realize what she just said about this town. "Ok, you can come up with a better story than that, Iz. Hellmouth and demons and vamps, oh my? C'mon, at least put some effort into it." I can't help but laugh a little.

"Yes that gypsy stuff. ANd me and Stefan are a long story for another time."

I look at her my face dead serious."India, I'm not fucking around here. This is not a joke. Vamps, demons, they exist and seem to find Sunnydale a excellent stomping ground."

Ok, really trying not to look at her like she's crazy, but it's not working very well. "Did you take any of your pain pills before we started this little chat? Really, Iz, it seems a little far-fetched. I didn't see anything that looked like Dracula or had horns running around the other night when Vince and I went out. If this was such a hip place for vamps and demons, you'd think I'd of seen some."

"Well with one phone call I could get you both and show you. But I am not gonna subject my friends to that." And I am SO not telling her about Dracula. "The point is, they are here, and if you are going to stay here you're gonna have to get smart about them real quick. Theres gonna have to be some ground rules. This is non~negotiable. You put yourself in danger once and you are SO one the first plane back home."

Dude, she is so on drugs! I play along with her, though, 'cause she doesn't seem to be letting this idea go. "Ok, lay down my ground rules, sis. And none of them better be anything close to 'No going out with Vince', either. And I promise not to gawk at your friends when they come over, if that's one of them. I've seen plenty of freaks in New York, not much phases me anymore."

"India, I'm not crazy or on drugs. I'm dead serious, and if you can't be, I'll have to rescind my offer. As for Vince, I'm not gonna get involved. I'm sure you both will do the right thing." As for the crack about my friends, well I have an idea to take care of her doubt. "You're just gonna have to stick close to home here until I figure out how best to figure this out."
