A few weeks ago I applied for a vacancy for the job of freelance editor. A week later I received an e-mail for the director asking me and other applicants to tell him which of their current titles I liked best. So I studied the list and replied.
Today, I received the book I mentioned in my reply. There's no accompanying note. There isn't even a full address of the sender, only their postcode and house number. The postcode and house number can be tracked back to the company I applied to.
But here's the thing that puzzles me: the book was sent to my old address. I've moved six months ago. I haven't used my old address in correspondence since. I've checked my e-mail; my old address isn't accidentally still listed in the signature. I even checked my chamber of commerce registration. I can't think of any way this company got a hold of my old address (and thought it was the best address to send me things). Unless they've somehow gotten hold of one of my old business cards.
Or this information is somehow listed in my browser and they got a hold of that when I visited their site.
