commen_senseSummary: Will welcomes Rachel back into Glee club and apologizes for being so hard on her. Rachel finally puts aside her pride and realizes that friends are important, even to stars like her.
Will realized that he had been seeking out Rachel a lot lately, but he reasoned that it was circumstances that brought him to her each time, nothing else. Though, he did notice a general pattern in their meetings: she was always unhappy. Will wanted to change that. He was happy that she was back in Glee club and grateful that she had saved their butts the night before. For once, this meeting wasn't going to be about how Glee club was failing her.
Will entered the school's small dance studio, and found Rachel doing some stretches at the barre.
"Hey," He said. "I'm not interrupting, am I?"
Rachel finished her grand plie, and turned to him with a smile. There was uncertainty in that smile, Will noticed. She was a little nervous after how tense it had been between them. Despite having bravado and pretending to be confident all the time, Rachel Berry sometimes slipped. Behind her star-quality smiles, Will detected a vulnerability.
"No, of course not. What's up, Mr. Schu?" She asked. Her arm gracefully rose above her head as she delicately rose to stand on her tippy toes. Her mask of confidence was secure now.
"I wanted to say that I'm happy you're back," Will said. "The whole club missed you."
Rachel stopped mid-demi plie to stare at him questioningly, almost hopefully.
"Really?" She looked away, embarrassed. "How do you know? Did fi--Did anyone say anything?"
"Everyone wanted you back, Rachel." Will reassured her.
"Even you?" She asked, her voice small.
It pained him that she thought he disliked her in some way, even when he told her that he was her biggest fan.
"Maybe me most of all." He said. "I'm sorry I was so hard on you."
Rachel smiled. "I'm glad to be back. It's tough being a star, you know," She said, trying to sound flippant. "Without friends, that is."
She hesitated a little before adding, "And I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have acted like such a diva."
"Everyone was behind you, though, Rachel." Will said, shaking his head. "You are our best singer, and everyone knows that."
"It's good to have the support," She said. "It feels good. When I was by myself in the cabaret, even as the star, I…I felt like I had no one."
"You have to have support somewhere, right? Even the biggest stars need their support." Will told her gently. This was the lesson he had wanted for her all along.
Will continued, "And I'm sorry that you can't be the star all the time, but Glee club is about everyone being a star. You have to support them as much as they support you."
Rachel took a deep breath, as if she was about to do something incredibly difficult. "I think I can handle that for now." Then, she gave him a big smile. "So, let's start over, Mr. Schu. No more apologies." She held out a hand.
Will took her hand in his, and saw that it was warm and strong, much like Rachel herself. She was a strong girl, and had put up a fight until the very end. Will had no doubt that she could handle anything, especially when it came towards her passion for singing, but sometimes even the strong needed friends. He believed that was the real reason why Rachel came back to Glee club. "Welcome back, Rachel. I'll see you at rehearsal tomorrow?"
"I'll be there." Rachel answered.
