Well, I can’t write stories or draw pictures, but I would still like to contribute in some way, such as (hopefully) starting a conversation.
I hate my DVD drive, as it is eating DVDs, grr. I need to get it replaced. My TV is no good as the DVD player will not recognise foreign region DVDs. I have found that no disc will last long in the drive, so I take them out and put them away to avoid destruction.
Thank you so much to whoever it was who uploaded the episodes to YouTube! I am only on dial-up, but at least I was able to finish watching the segments I had missed. They were well worth the long wait.
I found the much-vaunted and long-awaited 47 Ginger-Headed Sailors mildly amusing. I loved the dog barking along with Bertie singing, and what a sweet little dog! I'd like to see more of this little barking cutie.
I had never heard of this series until I started reading the archive (three cheers for the archive!) so I went looking for information. A frequent comment was that Stephen Fry was too old for the part. I thought that was rather silly, as he looks in early middle-age in the series, quite old enough to be mature and able to dispense sage advice. Strangely, no-one seemed to notice that Hugh Laurie was clearly too old for the part. This doesn’t matter very much, as he acts young successfully, although I do get tired of the constant faces he pulls. He looks like a rabbit, LOL. When I first started watching, I thought he reminded me a little of Siddig el Fadil, but realised as I became more familiar with his appearance and body language that he doesn't really look like him.
I simply love Bertie’s peach pyjamas - beautiful colour! They suit Hugh's dark colouring remarkably well, too. He looks rather sweet in them.
Does anyone know the purpose of the bicycle clips over the elbows? Jeeves doesn’t wear billowing sleeves, so what is the point? Perhaps they are just for show. :-) Speaking of clothing, one thing I did notice is that the fake evening shirt fronts are not well made. The BBC is renowned for its period costume dramas, it isn’t like them to make such a mistake. Perhaps the budget was a little short.
I loved the drums of doom when Bertie realised why Madeleine wanted to see him during the Gussie’s deadly notebook sequence. Mephistopheles shaking and whimpering was simply hilarious! I think a lot of fun was had in the studio before and after takes. ;-)
I still have much more to watch of the series, and I’m looking forward to it. I like the way the actors have fun with their parts, and I think the director and crew had fun as well. I am also really looking forward to a new DVD drive and more memory.
