Hee! And it's just like Jeeves to say it that way, subtly and carefully, with the safety net of being able to claim it doesn't mean anything in case Bertie doesn't return the feelings. And Bertie being clever in return! Love that. *g*

Oh, the squeeicity!
Dahlia ~ different websites I'd looked on said different things

1- novelty
2- good taste
3- instability
4- gratitude
5- dignity
6- pomp
7- misrepresentation

The 3rd seems most appropriate, I'd say.

And GREEN carnations? Oh, the Wildeness!

I was thinking 'instability'. There tended to be a corrolation between the sites that associated green carnations with 'The love that dares not speak its name' and those that attibuted instability to dahlias!

Mind you, the really funny thing is that the whole green cranations thing was actually a joke thought up by wilde and his chums in order top get the public to think there might be some sort of code - they weren't.

When asked what the carnation signified, Wilde responded: "Nothing whatever, but that is just what nobody will guess."

Brilliant. Bloody Brilliant. To fool an entire British public into thinking there was a conspiracy around his - _buttonhole_
His _buttonhole_ . Only Wilde could have thought up such a prank.

Green!!!! I feel so clever for knowing what that means. Obscure references to gay history for the win!
