Am obviously ecstatic about the results today, but will post more on that tomorrow when I'm more awake.
For now, let me say this (and I don't really care if anyone feels offended by this entry because ffs); I am so bloody tired of people who consider themselves to be 'die hard fans' who 'know the game of football' and then, when all comes down to it, they don't and all you can hear from them is "OMFG WE PLAYED SO WELL I CAN*T MOTHERF'ING BELIVE IT OMGZ!!!!!" (and perhaps also "SQUEEEEE OMG *DED*!" because Sky f'ing Sports showed a shirtless Fernando Torres at the end of the match. There's a difference between almost screaming it and thinking it to yourself quietly, you know).
2 + 2 = 4
(Self-proclaimed) female 'football fan' excessive, completely over the top squeeing at shirtless men = Someone who will not be taken seriously, for obvious reasons (if I have to explain them reasons...). And I don't simply mean 'taken seriously by men' with that. Female football fans who do actually know quite a bit about this game won't take them seriously for a second either.
I'm talking about this 'breed' of football-fans in particular right now and not the random fangirler who grin whenever the 'One' is interviewed on telly. Hell, I do that a lot. But I smile and think my secret thoughts whenever I see a handsome lad. Anywhere. Not just on telly.
I'm talking about those who claim to know every-fucking-thing about football but in reality is only interested because OMFG HOT MEN. They may not claim their knowledge in words, like "Oh, I know so much". It's more in the way they behave. Some times it's like they sincerely believe they know squat and that's just plain sad and amusing at the same time.
How about listening to the 'Oh yes, I KNOW, that goal was SOOOO good. I think Stevie was our best player today!" ("Stevie?! WTF are you talking about? He hasn't been half decent since pre-season.") "I think he's been excellent! I can't believe you don't think so!" (::mutter:: "Me and the rest of the fucking world, including the man himself...")?
Do I really have to explain why this is driving me bloody nuts?
Perspective, people. Real football fans take only a few seconds to catch this behaviour out of a crowd. The polite ones will perhaps shrug and pretend they didn't hear it. The less polite ones (a.k.a the ones who don't really care about what they say to who) will ask why the fuck you're watching the game when you can't even tell why they got a free kick and not a penalty. When the offense was committed outside the box.
Okay, so why am I bringing this up at all?
Simple really.
It's one of them infamous knee-jerk reactions; I am completely and utterly pissed off with fangirls who are belittling what's been going on in the offices at Anfield/Melwood/Texas lately. "Ah come on now, it can't be that bad. Rafa's still there, right? *opens link to getty or whatever image archive* OHH LOOK! NEW TRAINING PICZ! OMFG *DED*"
Do it all you like but not in my face when you know I'm upset by this fucking mayhem going on behind the scenes at my beloved club! It's not 'nothing' and no, the press hasn't exaggerated things as much as some people want to believe. That's official by now.
Until statements are made from the people involved, just leave me to my misery, because I don't want to live in a false, happy bubble of hope in case things actually do go wrong and all hell breaks out. I don't believe in happy bubbles. I've been in too many who've turned out to burst and although I was flying happily extremely high up there, the way down is fucking short and you hurt yourself when you hit the rocks beneath you. (Those of you who (un)knowingly live in happy bubbles; good for you. Keep flying. Good luck. And buy yourself a parachute for when it bursts, because it will.)
Expect the worse, hope for the best. And do what you can to achieve the latter.
The fans marching. The Rafatollah picture out and about again. The banners. The songs. The goals. Rafa's after-match interview with BBC. What the fans have done over the past few days to show support. It all brought tears to my eyes tonight.
Best fans. Best manager. Best players. Best club. Bar none.
YNWA.
So true.
