I'm late. Haven't been here in a while. Just posted this response on an LJ and realized that I don't think I've missed a year of some kind of rememberance on this day since it happened.
I will always remember...
I used to go up to Windows on the World. My first time was 4th of July 1976, the Bicentennial. I went up there by myself to see the Tall Ships in the harbor. Brought my "paper journal", no internet then, and had a vodka gimlet. That became kind of a ritual for me, once or twice a year for the next 5 or 6 years. Almost always alone, always with my journal, always ordering vodka gimlets. Like in planes, I was always good at writing in high places.
My first thoughts on September 11, 2001 were for the folks at Windows on the World when I realized the first plane went in right below them and no one there got out..... I was here in Michigan by then, moved here in '85.
Rest in Peace, all those who were lost on this day in 2001.
