So despite the minefield of guilt trips I've been tip-toeing through from my parents, I had a great thanksgiving this year. I slept in, and then went over to a good friends house for food and a LotR marathon. It was fabulous, just what I wanted/needed, and something I wish I could do more often. Without the guilt trips would be even better.
It's been years since I've last seen LotR - maybe since RotK came out. So it was good to see them again, and makes me think a bit harder about picking them up (yes, I don't actually own them.) However, it was way too amusing to see (and snark) at how homo-erotic the entire thing was. Granted, re-reading some of the very secret diaries didn't help at all, and probably set the tone, but I think it's there without that boost. Especially in RotK - Howard Shore is an amazing composer, but seriously, I think he has issues. Tolkien too. And probably Jackson. If I didn't know better, I'd say all three were deep in the closet, with the amount of man love on screen. Backed up by an incredibly sappy/romantic score in a lot of the most pongiant places.
Anyway, a good time was had by all, the food (Thanksgiving by way of Giant prepared dinner) was very good, especially for the quantity and the price, although the pumpkin pie could have used... something. Definitely had better. But everything else was great - I even ended up having a turkey drumstick, which you can usually only get a ren-faires. Went very well with the feel of the movie.
Anyway, I hope everyone out there had a great thanksgiving, and have a fabulous next couple of days. And for those of you who have to work tomorrow, I hope it's nice and slow and easy and you manage to come in late and get off early, because seriously, it's a crime.
