Damn good show

Ok so on friday, Lauren (a girl I met through Veronica) and I went to see Ra, Powerman 5000, and Stone Sour. Here's some details:

Opening band was called Systematic. They were alright. Not the best, but at least they're trying. One thing I didn't like was that toward the end of their set, the singer stopped the music so he could get the crowd to participate. (You know, "I want to see all your fucking hands in the air, motherfuckers!" and bullshit like that. What an idiot. People will participate when they like the music, not when you're being a dick about it.) So yeah, they didn't score many points with me.

Then came Ra. These guys kick some ass, man. I'm going to buy the album as soon as I can scrounge up some money. Definitely worth seeing if they're coming to your area.

Ah, Powerman 5000. They rocked my fucking ass! The coolest part was during the middle of their set, the dude says something like "Do you all remember when music was real? You know, real, like a group of friends would start up a band and gradually work their way to the top. Not like today, when they take this hot chick, slap a tie on her and call her punk rock. (haha!) I remember opening for Pantera and Slayer, and getting shit thrown at me on stage. (and this is Powerman 5000 talking..) I'd like to see what would happen if Good Charlotte opened for Slayer!" Then they went into one of their old-school songs. Damn, they kicked some fucking ass.

And the headliner: Stone Sour. I gotta tell you, before this show, the only song I had heard from them was Bother. And damn if I didn't know what the hell to expect. I was pretty sure that wasn't what all their stuff sounded like, but I didn't expect them to be as heavy as they were (though I should have because of the other three bands they were playing with) They were pretty damn good. But for some reason, I just couldn't get into them as much as Powerman or Ra. Too much like Slipknot. And then, of course, the singer also had some stuff to say about the state of music today. Just your normal "Fuck the bullshit, listen to real music" speech.

So to recap:

Systematic was ok, but nothing speacial.

Ra kicks some ass. See them. Now.

Powerman 5000 was the highlight of the show. (They should have been the headliners, in my opinion.)

Stone Sour was good, but not my cup of tea.

Oh, and at the end of the show, they were handing out free tickets to see a Nirvana tribute band called Lithium. So Lauren and I are going to see them. :)
