In the Army
It is 9/11 and I am at a Military base where the terror alert has been raised from Yellow to RED pinata, if you didn't get that watch Delta Farce, unfortunately that also means that all MPs are on call, kinda like Drs with guns. My MP has been at work since 330 this morning and wont be home until 6 am tomorrow, those of you playing the home game that is 26 and a half hours of duty time. Also the amount of time I will be boxed in this apartment that is older than dirt. Now that I am done complaining let's talk about a few things I dont get.
Today in honor of those lost on 9/11/2001 the infantry guys are throwing a BBQ, in which they will get drunk cook and eat meat and a whole lot of other crap. It doesn't seem fair that the security of this entire base which includes 2 airfields fall upon just the MPs, who if my math holds only constitutes 1/4 of the entire base's population. Unfortunately for me I am among the 4 Arab descended people who live here, makes us prime targets for hate crimes, although I have told everyone I met that I am Dominican. I ended up having to take one guy to the ACC (acute care clinic) because he got jumped by a 15 yr old. I think it is funny that a 15 yr old ass kicked a soldier, I kept getting reruns of the Army Strong commercials play in my head. I volunteered myself to do what is called emergency relief. If say some dumb ass doesn't want an ambulance I get to drive them, or if someone gets too drunk to drive I drive them, etc.
I think I am a decent person. I do good things for my community whether it is here or NPR. I know it isn't easy being a soldier but I never realized how hard it is to love someone who is one. Every time Tony is late a fraction of an hour I think he got shot, or if he doesn't call me every few hours I think something bad happened. I feel like I am sitting on pins. It is hard not having the support of my friends that I had before but I am making new friends, but I don't think I will ever be as close to them as I am to you guys. I love and miss so many people from FL.
