...and Sanity Returns

Today was an interesting day at work. Our 9 year old begged for the supervisor to let me be his partner... he was doing awesome until he got his reward (free time with legos)and then decided he wasnt going to work anymore...ran out of the building repeatedly until me and another staff member caught him and took him out to the QR. The other staff members partner started freaking out so he had to leave me alone with the 9 year old. He started kicking a desk he was stting in, and after asking him to stop repeatedly I had to pull him out of the desk. He then attempted to kick me, and throw said desk at me, so I had to restrain him on the ground until another staff member came in to help. It was annoying, but somewhat amusing.

Later I was placed with our 14 year old that Im almost never placed with. He takes a couple classes at the regular middle school, so I was faced with the added challenge of getting him to complete his school work. It was not fun trying to get him to work.. but his main problem is severe ADHD, so at least I have some experience. It really just takes a lot of patience. I was about to pull my hair out by the end of the night, and then the head supervisor called and talked to the on-call supervisor. I overheard the oc-S tell the H-S that the boy really turned his night around once I started working with him, etc, and that I have a way with him. You don't understand how vindicating it feels to hear something like that. The supervisor came over to me and told me the head superviser was really impressed with the way I handled the boy...and that he's glad to see him (the boy) finally have a good night (hed been dragged out to the QR the past few nights). I had to laugh that the supervisor considered this a "good night" for him, though, because he was by no means "good". lol The bad news is that I didn't particularly enjoy being his partner because it makes me nervous wondering if he did all his work he needed for school right, etc, and I'm sure the supervisor is going to make me his partner more often now. I guess Im officially destined to be with the kids on town restriction 90% of the time, so I can never go out and do fun stuff at work!!! lol

I got permission to style one of the other boys heads in dreads today, too. I had no idea what I was doing, but they came out pretty cool for him being a white-boy. My partner wanted me to do his hair in cornrows today when he saw the other boys hair, but I told him he'd have to have consistently good behavior first. I have no idea how to style black-folk-hair, but I told him I'd give it a shot. It seems easy enough to braid. Tommorow night he's going to show me how to pick his hair, too. I guess it'll be good to know incase I ever have black foster kids, anyway.

Back to school tomorrow...blah. I wish I could just work another 12 hour day, instead! I'm so ready for school to be over. I'll probably wake up at 6 or so tomorrow morning to study for a Learning and Memory test, because I'm too wired and distracted to study tonight.

Loveyoumeanit,
IF
