Ross let out a deep, breathy sigh. His hand drifting to the light brown locks of the girl who lay beside him. He ran his fingers through her soft, smooth hair, cherishing the feel of it. Heaven was near. Nearer than it had ever been before, with anyone else. He stroked her arm lightly, careful not to wake up the sleeping beauty beside him. The feel of her skin still sent shivers through his body and being this close to her made his heart rate increase involuntarily. This was perfection. He knew it, he was sure. Everyone who said that it never existed, that there wasn't a flawless moment, was wrong.

Rachel shifted slightly in their bed, moaning a little in her sleep, mumbling incoherent words that didn't seem to matter. A smile made its way onto Ross' face. So many things about her made him happy. His heart would flutter a little, and his eyes would shine with joy whenever she was close by. Rachel had an effect on him that no other person could ever dream of. She was the one, his only. He didn't know what made her different, what made her so special, but she was, and that was all that really mattered.

The way she would mumble to herself in the morning trying to scramble eggs just right. Stray pieces of hair would frame her face and she'd push her sleeves up just before grabbing a wooden spoon and scooping the eggs around. Afterwards, Rachel would complain about them. They either had too much pepper or too much salt. She'd tell him they weren't fluffy enough or that she had put in about an extra half cup of milk, resulting in soggy eggs. Ross didn't understand her complaints; her eggs were good, not perfect, but good. She made them with love, and that was enough.

Ross adored the way Rachel would play with Emma on their living room floor. She dumped the toys out so they made a messy pile of balls and dolls and stuffed animals. She let Emma pick which one to play with and Rachel would smile and laugh. And when Emma got bored, which she always did, Rachel didn't even hesitate in letting their daughter run a brush through her hair and knot it in any way she pleased. Ross didn't even mind when they would go into the bathroom to wash up and leave the toys laying out. He would pick them up and smile instead of complain, because it was the least he could do. After all, Rachel gave him the joy of watching the two people he loved the most, smile and laugh together.

Then, his mind settled on the image of Rachel reading on their bed, her hair up in a ponytail, her face sporting no make-up. That's when he thought she looked the most beautiful. She didn't need make-up or for her hair to be done just right. Rachel was gorgeous on the inside, and it clearly showed. Ross liked to stand outside their bedroom, leaning in the doorway for a few moments before Rachel would notice him and beckon him inside. He loved her. He loved her more than anything in this world and the next. He could stand in that doorway forever and be perfectly content.

Rachel's eye fluttered open slowly, bringing him from his thoughts. They smiled at each other genuinely and she used her small hands to prop herself up. "What were you thinking about?"

"You", Ross shook his head slightly, leaned over and kissed her, softly, slowly, peacefully. He wrapped his arm around her thin shoulders pulling her closer to him and he planted a soft kiss on her head. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Rachel closed her eyes once more and in a few minutes her breathing was slow and regular, Ross knew she had fallen asleep once again. Then he closed his own eyes and was soon asleep too. Both smiling and content in each other's arms.
