Something is coming up for me next month where I'll really need a good distraction, so I thought I'd try a console RPG-- so many I've wanted to play, but hard to justify when I'm already paying for WoW. Now I have Amazon points, so I can easily get two games.
Here are my choices (I haven't played any of these, so I'd be starting with the first one): Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Skyrim (I didn't care for Morrowind, but is Skyrim accessible if you haven't played any of the others?), Fallout (is New Vegas a separate thing or do you need to start earlier?). Feel free to recommend anything I haven't listed, if it's on XBox and you think I'd also like it based on my interest in the others.
What I like in a game: Good story, good worldbuilding, interesting quests, combat that doesn't frustrate the hell out of me.
I don't know if I'm just bad at games in general or just bad at certain things-- I had no problem with either KOTOR, I've played through every Halo campaign on Heroic or better (and i regularly do offline firefight on both Heroic and Legendary), but I couldn't get past the beginning in either Jade Empire or KH2. In JE, I wasn't coordinated enough to do the button combos, and in KH there was a timed skating/skate-jumping sequence that I simply couldn't get past. Anything that requires precision jumping is just not happening for me (platformers are evil). I can aim and shoot just fine as long as I can see and the colors are variant enough to discern where the enemy is (god help me with all those various-shades-of-brown shooters). I don't mind if they're a little grindy (hey, I play WoW and I never raid, so...). I *hate* getting lost, games with good maps will always beat games with no maps. I have no preference between fantasy and SF. I don't know what that adds up to, but hopefully you'll be able to figure out which games would be best.
I will be buying these for XBox 360. My laptop is old and wouldn't even think of playing Skyrim, and disability issues make console gaming so much easier and less stressful for me than PC gaming, even if that means giving up on all the great modding. Oh-- I do not currently have XBL and it's an expense I'd avoid if I could. If there's DLC that's really worth it, I'd be willing to get it short-term but I've heard it's almost impossible to cancel (last time I simply failed to update after my credit card expired).
Lots of customization options is a plus, f/f romance options is a *huge* plus. ETA: I don't need a romance in my game, story/world are more important than that to me. But if there *is* romance in the game, I'd like it to have an f/f option. (The way I'd worded that was kind of confusing.)
Thanks!
