My name is Aaron and I’m with customer service at All-In-One Manufacturing. It all piles up after lunch, and I take a late lunch for my shift. I usually like it since it lives only about two hours left until the shift is over. But then suddenly there’s more work to be done in those two hours than there was in the first six before lunch.
Oh, and the word “lunch” is highly subjective. My definition of the word is: either the act of, within an half-hour span, not eating at all and reading in my car with all the windows down because for some reason it’s hot as hell in the winter, or the act of going to Carl’s Jr. (because it’s close by) and getting a something I only sort of want and feeling sick for it afterwards.
It sounds like I’m unhappy with my job. But I think any job I could get right now I’d be somewhat unhappy with. I’m always going to have to make calls to stupid people with bad news about things that are their fault but they don’t want to have to admit it’s their fault and, huff huff, this wasn’t a problem with these other companies, etc. But it’s worlds better than Barnes & Noble. Let me count the ways:
1. Better pay.
2. An actual 40-hour shift.
3. I get to sit down.
4. A fully-equipped computer at my disposal.*
5. Internet access!
6. No incompetent assistant manager whom, even after nine months on the job, I could out perform as myself two months after I had started at B&N, damn it.
7. Reasonably-priced vending machines.
8. One block from the cheapest gas around (it’s an Arco, though, so it really depends on my having cash).
