Part One- Personal
Name: Sair
Character's Name: Neville Longbottom

Other Instant Messenger Programs:
AGE:(Must be 18+) 18
Past Rpg Experience: One year on LJ, about four years on other types of forums, about ten years of table top RPGs like Dungeon and Dragons with family friends and conventions. I have also done some decent GMing for cons.
Where did you hear about our RPG? LJ community search.

The following situations may or may not arise over the course of the game. You, as a player, are never required to participate in anything you do not wish, but the situations might arise around you. This is an adult game set in a fantasy world where there are definite bad-guys out there.

Having said that, please tell us you you feel about:

Het, slash and femmeslash: I'm good with any and all pairings.
NC-17 material: I'm good with it.
Violence: I can deal with it and write it decently.

((OOC: Since someone has already played him, I did look at the bio to keep some of the constancy for things. I hope that's okay.))

Part Two- Character Info
Character Name: Neville Longbottom
Age: 21. (He'd be that yesterday, I believe, if the game is real time.)
Birthday: 30 July, 1980.
Wand: Cherry wood and unicorn hair, 14 inches.
House in School: Gryffindor.
Bloodline: (Pureblood,Half-blood, Muggle born) Pureblood.
Political View: He believes equality for all types of wizards, respect your elders, defend your friends, family, and the innocent, freedom and justice for all, and stop anyone who is like Voldemort or a Death Eater from hurting people.

Appearance
Height: 5'7
Weight: 170
Build: He's solid and roundish, but not really fat.
Eyes: Hazel, more of the green than the brown type.
Hair: A well groomed, short, dark brown head of hair.
Dress style: He dresses like his grandmother chose his clothes. They're usually a bit dressy, and a bit out of date, and a bit geeky. Though, he does keep in mind what work he's doing when he's dressing.
Discerning Marks: (include basic appearance, discerning marks, style, etc.) He has a round face that he's always had. He doesn't have many marks on him, though he does have a scare here or there from particularly fierce plants or the battles he's gotten into.
PB:(Played By--this is the actor, actress or model you will be using for your character icon in the game.) I suppose I am still supposed to use Sean Astin, correct? Matthew Lewis is still a bit too young...
Sexuality: (include details about sexual orientation, history, and give valid reasons for your character being gay/bisexual/straight/transgendered) He's had some small, school year crushes on Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley, but other than the one date to the Yule Ball with Ginny and the date for the bachelor auction, he hasn't had all that much dating experience. As far as he knows, he is heterosexual.

Psychology
Introvert/Extrovert He's an introvert. He's very shy and timid. He was like that before he came to Hogwarts and when he arrived, the teasing from other students and the failures in many of his classes made him all the more nervous. In result, his clumsiness would happen more often. Though, after his fifth year, he did start to feel the bravery of being a Gryffindor more often and he's had a major boost from his Order of Merlin award. He's still usually quite timid though.
Boggart is? Explain. PLEASE NOTE: A Boggart assumes the shape of a *creature* or physical object. This is not the same as a Dementor Effect - it cannot be something vague like 'loneliness' or 'sadness' or 'darkness'. It must have shape and form. Neville's boggart has changed a few times. At first it was Snape, but threw the years, that fear faded and moved to his parents disowning him as the war approached and he feared disappointment. Then it changed to himself becoming what he hated most. That he would become a Death Eater. However, it has changed again to the one thing that has hurt him the most in his life. The thing that took away his parents mind and what he believes took them away finally. The person who just refused to stay away. His boggart is the thing he hates most, but also fears. His boggart is Bellatrix Lestrange.
Patronus--can they produce one? What is it and why does it have that form? Again, please note, as per canon - a Patronus is a *creature* of some kind. We have been very flexibe as to allow fictional creatures to be Patronuses, but it cannot be an inanimate object. A Beater's Bat cannot be a Patronus. His patronus is a hedgehog. A shy animal, but one that can and will fight if there is a need for it. They keep low and out of the way mostly and live among the plants. Truly, Neville is like a hedgehog.

Personality
Include strengths, weaknesses, quirks, general outlook on life.
Neville has low self esteem and is often too hard on himself. He's very timid and shy and is easily nervous. He doesn't have the best of memories and even a Rememberall doesn't help beyond just confirming what he already suspects. He's not the smartest man around, having only passed most of his OWLs with hours of studying and D.A. practice. He's also quite clumsy more often than not.

However, despite his timid nature, and lack of academic achievement, he is quite dependable. He is brave when he needs to be, never running when others need him. When he has a goal, he is determined to reach it, no matter how much work it takes. He's an extremely loyal and caring friend and he's not afraid to ask for help when he needs it and offer it when he can. When something is truly important, he never forgets it. Though, it usually has to be important for others to count.

He's rather hopeful for the future of others. He wants to believe others can succeed and be happy. However, when it comes to himself, he's a little less optimistic. He thinks he'll end up failing horribly and dishonoring his family and never get married and all that. He works hard for that to not happen, but he still expects it.

Neville's true mental strength is plants. He can find out most anything on plants with magical properties. He can tell when the plant would be most potent, when it blooms and withers, and all sorts of facts. He enjoys learning about them and growing them. He hopes to become one of the best herbologists. He's chosen to work at Saint Mungo's because he's happy to know that the plants he helps grow and harvest are used to help those who are sick and injured. He's not much of a fighter, but to help healing is good enough for him.

Most of his nervous habits, like stuttering, have died away, but sometimes they will return. Such as meeting with Snape again. However, the more common nervous habit he has now is fiddling with a chain of gum wrappers in his pocket that he made from the wrappers his parents gave him.

Family
Parents? Frank and Alice Longbottom. (Both deceased.)
Siblings? None.
Family dynamics--do they get along? Opposite sides of the war? Accept their child's magical talent? Pressure for 'pure blood' marriage? Neville lives with his grandma. Gran encourages Neville to exceed expectations, strive for improvement, to become one of the best wizards alive today. She will sometimes be a little bit too focused on this rather than on what Neville wants. Neville always tries to make her proud and gets down on himself when he fails, but beyond this, they do care about each other greatly.

Though Neville isn't quite like the rest of his family in respects of magical talent, he still gets along with them most of the time and loves them all dearly.

Lifestyle
Occupation: Resident Herbologist at Saint Mungo's Apothecary.
Residence: A modest flat in London that's full of dozens of different plants. Trevor is also there.
Financial Status: Like most of the pureblood families, there is wealth tied to the Longbottom name. He has access to the Longbottom vault, but he prefers to work and keep his life simple.

History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time: include any affiliations since Hogwarts, jobs, family life, significant events in the character's recent history, how was this character affected by the war, how does your character feel about the present political climate?
When Neville first began school, he was seen as a bumbler. Many thought he wouldn't amount to much. After all, he was said to be almost a squib and he couldn't even keep tabs on his toad Trevor. However, through the years, he has shown to have bravery by always going to Potions despite the verbal abuse he suffered from Snape and the Slytherins, and standing up against his friends when he needed too. He would stand up when others wouldn't, even if he did mess up. He's made friends with his fellow Gryffindors despite his social awkwardness and is glad of it.

He was a bumbler for years, never seeming to be good at much of anything other than Herbology and barely scraping by with passes in the other classes. Then year five came and he reached a mile stone in his life. Neville believed Harry about Voldemort. He saw Cedric dead and he knew Harry wouldn't lie about something like that. The papers talked bad about one of his friends and their headmaster who his Gran always spoke so highly of. Then Umbridge came and started teaching them things even Neville himself thought too simple. When he heard about the formation of a Defense Against the Dark Arts group Harry, Ron, and Hermione were making. The friends he had admired for years and they thought he was good enough to be invited. Of course he accepted. He wanted to learn to be able to fight.

It was those lessons that was the first time ever Neville truly understood how to perform the spells. It took a lot of practice out of class, but he learned to disarm, stun, and so much more. He even started to make a Patronus, even if it was a wispy mist. He was actually of help when they went to the Department of Ministry. In fact, he was one of the last standing! An impressive feat even though it was quite scary at the time.

He was proud of that time. He was able to do justice to the legacy his parents left him. He was able to save his friends. He actually felt like he could do what he needed to protect those he cared about. Even with the D.A. disbanded the next year, Neville kept practicing the spells, not wanting to lose anything he learned. When it came to the battle at the end of the school year, he actually caused some damage before he taken out of the battle.

Neville joined in the war against Voldemort. He doesn't remember them very clearly as they just seem to blur together with ups and down, wins and losses, and eventually joining the Order of the Phoenix. One of the few clearly remembered battles is when he had helped with the capture of Bellatrix Lestrange.

After Bellatrix was deemed insane and was transferred to Saint Mungo's, he was more frustrated than he had ever been. This woman who had tortured and murdered countless people, as well as driving his parents insane, was deemed not responsible for her actions! Then came the death of his parents so soon after her arrival and there was not even a real investigation.

He supposed not knowing his parents as well as others was probably why it didn't hurt quite as much as he expected. Though, it still hurt and he disappeared for about a month, only mailing back letters to assure everyone he was still alive with short sentences of 'I'm fine' or something of the like. When he returned, it was almost like he never left, acting the same as he always had.

After Voldemort was finally defeated, Saint Mungo's offered him a job as an apothecary. He took it for three reasons. One was because plants truly was his only real talent. The next was he could be a real help to people in this time of peace. Finally, he wanted to find out proof of whether or not Bellatrix had indeed killed his parents and make sure she did nothing else. Of course, that's harder now that she's free. He still works at Saint Mungo's for his other reasons.

For his capture of Bellatrix, he has received an Order of Merlin and is quite proud of it. He was also elected one of Britains most eligible Bachelors and even participated in an auction where someone bought a date with him to his embarrassment. Though he continues his work with Saint Mungo's, he also has a side project with Snape concerning a hybrid of Mimbulus Mimbletonia and aloe. He's still going through the trial and error of making the sap suitable for potion making to help cure wounds for Lyncathropes. Though the meetings are quite awkward and Snape makes Neville feels like he's in school again, he's enjoying the project. The tips on business aren't so bad either if he could only remember them.

Though much of his free time is going to perfecting his hybrid, he enjoys some free time watching the muggle television, listening to the radio on current events, and some bonding with Trevor, even though the frog isn't quite so perky as it once was.

How does he/she feel about the more infamous events and people in the world around him/her? Harry Potter and his victory over Voldemort? Dumbledore and his murder by Severus Snape? Lucius Malfoy's pardon and book publication? Snape's pardon and appointment back to his old job at Hogwarts? The Registry? Werewolf Remus Lupin's job at Hogwarts? Bellatrix' capture, insanity defence, followed by her "cure" and release from St. Mungo's? etc.
Neville is of course glad that Voldemort was defeated. After all those years of fear, of all those people he hurt, of all the families he destroyed, Neville was elated to hear Harry finally took out that dark wizard.

Neville had mixed opinions of Snape when he was pardoned. This was the man who had killed the headmaster his Gran spoke so fondly of. However, he also worked with the Order and was still working against Voldemort after the murder. In the end, Neville just accepted it and hoped the right decisions were made. Though, Neville's opinion of Snape has improved since working with him with the hybrid.

When it came to Lucius, Neville still doesn't trust what he said was true. Malfoy had led Death Eaters into the school and his father had been trying to get the prophecy just the year before and had threatened all their lives. He also seemed quite close to Bellatrix since she seemed to listen to him somewhat at the Department. Neville accepts the fact he was pardoned, but he doesn't trust him in the least.

Neville has mixed feelings about the registry. Someone like Lucius Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange would need the collars. After all, they could become real threats and hurt a lot of people now that they were out of Azkaban. However, when it came to relatives and werewolves, it's a different story. He knows someone like Lupin doesn't deserve the collar and he shouldn't have to wear something that proclaimed what he was because of the prejudice. For relatives, you shouldn't be judged by what your family does alone. If good and bad were in the genes, then Sirius Black, who was apparently someone Harry cared for, would have been bad and not killed by Bellatrix, and that can't be the only incident of such things.

Neville was quite happy to hear Lupin had gotten another job at Hogwarts. Out of all the Defense Against the Dark Arts, Lupin had been his favorite. Neville thinks he's a good teacher and thinks he's a good man, especially with his work in the Order.

When it comes to Bellatrix, Neville thinks that everyone involved in deeming her just insane and allowed to go to Saint Mungo's to be cured and then released need to go to Saint Mungo's themselves and never be released. They were bloody insane to think she was fit for normal society! To think she had no control of her actions! Neville knew she knew exactly what she was doing and enjoyed it! Yes, she was insane, but she knew what she was doing and that it was wrong. Neville is determined to find a way to get her back where she belongs and won't let her hurt anymore innocent people.

What plots would you like to pursue with this character? What short and long-term goals does the character have for his/her future? Well, I do agree with the lighthearted goal of getting this boy some dating experience. He's such a sweet boy and he deserves to find that special someone. After some awkward dates for humor, of course.

Neville will be actively trying to find ways to stop Bellatrix and get her back in Azkaban. He wants to thwart any plans she has for future evils because, really, he hates her with every fiber of his being. Of course, since that would limit the playing of the mun to get her thrown into Azkaban, there could probably just be a lot of action of near misses and the thwarting of her plans and just being a general annoyance to her.

I want him to make a successful hybrid for Snape and help make healing potions for all the werewolves.

Once you start playing the game and get a feel for your fellow players and characters, assuming the interaction is favourable, how long could you anticipate staying with this character and this game? What is your usual pattern of longevity in role-playing games? I can stay in a RP for years and years and I have a deep love for Harry Potter. Neville is one of my favorite characters as well. So I believe I will stay for a long time.

What is your usual pattern of availabilty and play-time for a character and game which you enjoy? I am usually free. There's a few points in the year where I will be gone for multiple days, but that's it usually. I usually spend a free hours a day online at least during the school time, and pretty much on constantly for the weekends.

Now that we've got a sense of your characterization, this is where you get to really showcase your writing style! Give us everything you've got! Remember--this sample must be a 'fresh' sample relevant to our game and the current setting.

Sample Journal Entry:
It certainly has been a while since I've written, hasn't it? I've been quite busy. It seems that after the Christmas season, a virus has spread around quite quickly. I've been backed up with the other apothecaries just to harvest enough anti-viral saps from so many different plants to cure everyone of it. And then there was the break out of the whooping cough, which is apparently a lot worse for wizards than muggles, and had to harvest dew from the honeycomb flower for that. I don't even want to go into the pig spots and what a mess that has been.

The worst part of all is I haven't been able to work on a pet project of mine.

[Private to Snape.]
I haven't been able to crossbreed the Mimbulus Necicatria. I've been so busy that the only free time I had was to eat, sleep, and make sure the plant would live. Though, it seems things have settled down now. I should have another plant samples for you to do testing on in just a few more weeks.

I will make sure to earn my stipend, sir. I believe I may have some more stable saps for you this time.

[/Private to Snape.]

I have to say I'm glad everyone is better now though. So many of the patients were so young. It was hard work, but it was worth it, I say. Though, now my co-workers are trying to set me up with some of their daughters and nieces or themselves again.

Maybe I should accept some of those offers. I mean, what could it hurt?

Sample Third Person Writing:
Stable. Stable was the key word. Neville needed to make the sap stable so it can be used. He wanted to try this with two different plants. He wanted to crossbreed it with the original Mimbulus Necicatria as well as the one crossbred with moonrose. He hadn't seen the results for the moonrose plant yet, but it couldn't hurt, right? Not to mention if either plant was successful, it would be easily mass produced.

After all, the Echinocactus Grusonii was a fast growing plant. Not to mention it thrived in the heat, so perhaps the sap it made wouldn't separate so easily. He just needed it to be stable and then everything would be perfect.

He pulled out a vial and a scalpel, slowly reaching towards the edge of the original Mimbulus Necicatria hybrid. He cut into the skin and prepared the vial to collect the sap.

That was when the sap shot out of every pore of the plant, covering everything around it in sticky, clear sap. Neville blinked and looked at the vial. At least the sap got in. He corked the vial and picked up a towel, wiping away the sap from his face and everything around the plant. He picked up the sticky notebook and turned the page, writing a note. 'Echinocactus Grusonii boosts the defense mechanism of the Mimbulus Necicatria to it's original state. Harvest with caution.'
