"Our first date was lovely. I remember making you laugh during our dinner. Your laugh's adorable. You should really let go more. Have some fun. And you did, with me, of course. I loved showing you everything- how the world works- the fun we can have. And I just ... fell for you more during our times together, if that's possible."

Arthur's fingers gripped the tail of his suit's jacket. His brows furrowed ever so faintly as a familiar clench began to well up in his heart. He knew that he shouldn't listen anymore, but considering the situation, Arthur found no heart to leave. He didn't want to believe a word Eames was saying to Cheyenne, but at the same time, he wanted to prove Eames wrong- to confront him before it was too late. His bit his bottom lip and continued listening to the words that struck his heart.

"And here we are. Standing here ... together. I ... I just want you to know that I love you. I always have, and I always will. You're my world, my everything now. No one else matters as much as you do to me."

His lips quivered; his body shook of anger and disappointment; his hopes shattered; his heart crumbled, and tears threatened to fall. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

But why was he so surprised? It wasn't like he didn't think of it before. He always thought Eames and Cheyenne had something between them by the way Eames would always smile at her, using the same smile that he gave to him.

Not caring for the words that followed Eames' confession, Arthur pulled away from the door and closed his hand over his mouth. He tried not to cry; he couldn't. He was at his wedding. Anyone could easily walk over and see him tearing up.

Arthur swallowed his tears by looking up and blinking them back. When he was cured, or so he thought, he let out a shaky breath. He was going to confront Eames. It was better to do it now, before the wedding started, since it might as well be canceled.

Eames desperately fought the blush that worked up on his cheeks as he completed his well rehearsed vowel. When he finally managed to, he peered up at Cheyenne. "What do you think?" he murmured, his eyes flickering off for a mere second.

"I think it's brilliant, Eames! Arthur's very lucky to have you, you know." She flashed him a smile. "But I suggest saying his full name at the end. It'll make the vow more ... appealing, if you get what I mean."

The Englishman mirrored her smile. "I knew I was missing something. Thank you, Cheyenne. You've been very helpful." Taking a step in her direction, he placed a delicate kiss on her lips before pulling back.

And it just so happened that, at the moment before he could pull back, the door opened. Arthur, appearing like a quivering mess with his eyes glazed over as if he was about to cry, stood in the doorway, surprise flickering over his expression.

Eames immediately opened his mouth to explain, but all he could get out was "Arthur" before the other took over.

"Only friends, are you? I trusted you, Eames. The least you could do was tell me that you don't feel the same way as I do to you-"

"Arthur, it's not-" Eames and Cheyenne both joined in unison at this, but said male promptly ignored them, specifically Cheyenne.

"I saw it, Eames. That's enough proof for me."

The pain-teared eyes turned away as Arthur reached for the door. Eames, fortunately, was lucky enough to catch his arm before he successfully escaped.

"Arthur, listen to me."

The dark brunet turned back, tears grazing his eyes. "No. You can't explain this."

"If you just give me a chance, I'll try-"

"I think you had enough chances, Eames," Arthur said bitterly, jerking his arm back. "You should be lucky that I love you this much to put up with you until this point- that I pushed away any thought that might ruin us, because I ... I wanted a bright future for us."

It was just the look that Arthur gave him that Eames became wordless on; there was hurt written all over the tear-streaked face. It was one face that Eames never wanted to see, especially if it was directed towards him.
