[character history / background]:
The not so distant future is one where a divide is forming; between humans and a new strain known as Psychiccers. These select people possess various kinds of special abilities, usually in the area of elemental powers along with certain psychic capabilities. These varied and unique abilities drew attention to them from human organisations such as the army. Naturally, when something unexplained occurred the logical course of action is to obtain a sample and experiment on in.
Such was the way with one Keith Evans, a young Psychic of vast ice elemental power. And in doing, perhaps one of the greatest grudges against mankind was born.
Elsewhere, several miles away from the laboratory, in the year 2010, Burn Griffith was blissfully unaware of any such developments living a fairly average life as a student - normal family, normal school life, normal location. And of course, this was not going to last. Bumping into Keith was perhaps one of the greatest blessing to Burn on some level, and yet on another it shoved open a door leading to all kinds of complications that would ensnare his life. After almost running over the escaping Psychic with his bike, Burn offered eagerly to make it up to Keith, quick to offer him a place to stay at his home with him and his parents. While Keith did accept the charitable offer, his stay did not last more than one night; the fear of Burn and his family getting caught up in the crossfire of Keith's escape was too great. Unfortunately, it could not have been avoided.
While Burn's family were being attacked by men from government, Keith returned to assist, after which Burn is swift to drag his friend from the house to attempt an escape together. The plan to flee is cut short however and after something of a struggle Keith is recaptured. With no real strength and no ability, Burn is left helpless to save him friend and is left to watch him being taken away. His determination to find Keith however gave him leads, eventually drawing him to a group of Psychiccers who have taken it upon themselves to wage war against the humans; Noa. The leader of this group is none other than Keith Evans.
The events that took place at the underground Noa headquarters in Alaska are considered to be classified information, but the facts are simple; shortly after reuniting himself with Keith, Burn's psychic abilities grew, massed themselves and finally emerged fully. With the newly acquired fire based powers, Burn made his views on Keith's plans for a new world free of humans very clear - he was opposed to it. A fight was unavoidable and the headquarters was destroyed.
2012 marked a new turning point, the creation of Neo-Noa with the intention of bringing a sense of peace to Psychics, the faction of the army to oppose both Neo-Noa and humans alike and a rise of new Psychiccers each with their own goals in mind.
After sustaining various serious injuries, Burn was placed in a state of suspended animation by Keith. Two years after their battle, Burn awakens, facing his friend and rival once more and again finding his goals to be ones not to his personal liking. Burn's lingering respect for life, for both Psychics and humans, lead them to fight once more.
[character abilities]: Burn is a Grandmaster Physic of fire. As the title suggests, Burn can create and manipulate fire to vast degrees both offensively and defensibly, though the latter is preferred whenever possible.
As well as this, like most other Psychics, Burn has several mind-related revolving primarily around mind-reading which can be utilised in various different ways given the situation and subject. These psychic abilities can also be used as a means to create protective shields as well as allow him to fly.
[character personality]: Almost a complete opposite of his counterpart, Keith in both in element and open personality. Optimistic, cheerful and well-natured, Burn is often seen with a smile on his face trying to always find the good in things and make the most of a bad situation.
If there is something within Burn's power to help someone then he will do it, very few questions asked. He is almost always willing to help those in need and even more willing to become a protector for anyone who needs defending. He doesn't believe in condemning the weak or ignore a person in need.
Burn can also be described as passionate about many things - about his beliefs and morals, about his friends and what he believes is right. Ultimately, Burn wants to do the right thing and make sure that people don't get hurt from the actions of other's. His views are often unshakable and has even lead to him fighting with his best friend on more than one occasion because their views have differed so vastly.
While Burn would rather not be drawn into conflict, when he does fight he is powerful and unyielding in his offence, especially when trying to defend another.
Burn is extremely loyal, in spite of being drawn into battles with friends and loved ones in the past over unavoidable matters, Burn will stick by those he cares about through thick and thin, never afraid to apply some tough -love if needed. He is especially devoted to his best friend and rival, Keith. In spite of their vastly differing opinions, Burn cares very much for his friend and would do as much as possible to ensure no further harm comes to him that may result in Keith becoming more jaded at humanity than he already is.
All in all, Burn is your typical nice-guy - laidback, friendly and reliable. It takes a lot, or some very harsh jabbing of very particular nerves, to invoke his anger, but when it is he is has the full fury of fire behind him.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: Post-game and returning him to the City with all his memories in tact.
[journal post]:
W-woah! Well, this is pretty different to what I remember. Damn... This sure as hell isn't where I was when I fell asleep but-- Ah.
( I wonder... whether he's here... Keith, if you're here, I'm gonna find you. )
So, where can a guy get some eats around here, huh?
[third person / log sample]:
The air felt tense with the impending sense of conflict wrapped around it. When two sides were unwilling to change their views the atmosphere got stretched thin, taut until it would inevitably snap.
How petty disagreements flared up into mass arguments and then further into fights before spiralling into all out wars was something Burn had never been able to get his head around. It seemed such a waste of life on all sides.
By some people's standards, evolution was the result of survival of the fittest, subtle changes in makeup increasing and changing until it developed into something different all together. In theory, something stronger. From where Burn stood, on the brink somewhere between the dawning of a new era of strand of dominant species and the original one he felt a distinct sense of dismay. Psychiceers and humans... It was all a horrible chain of events that he knew of all too well.
Humans feared what they did not understand and Psychiceers were being backed into tight corners. When backed up and feeling trapped, panic would set in. A Psychic would unleash their own unique power to defend themselves, sometimes consciously, sometimes not. This resulted in human casualties. The Psychiceer would be killed and fuelled by the media the threat of Psychics against the public was injected into the fearful minds throughout the world.
Burn couldn't blame such hysteria. As a corner Psychic wished to defend him or herself, so too did humans. When something threatened that they dealt with it the only way they knew how and that was eradication, plain and simple.
And so fear grew, on both sides, and yet there was more to it than simply destroying the Psychics and it was this that sickened the American more than anything. The idea of capturing Psychics and enslaving them as part of military power. Those people had no shame, no sense of how cruel they were or what damage it would do in the long run. Humans were scared, Psychiceers were scared and the Army wanted to ensnare terrified Psychics as weapons against humans.
Disgusting. How someone could even think about such blatant hypocrisy and utilization of terror infuriated Burn like nothing he'd ever known.
And of course, that lead to the next part of the cycle.
Rebellion. War.
An experiment would rebel against callous captors and then proclaim indiscriminating vengeance on a whole race. It would have been a sad thing for anyone to witness, but when the leader of the uprising of Psychics was your best friend? It was heart-breaking.
Noa was formed and fell and then was reborn once more as Neo-Noa with Keith remaining as a figure head, a beacon to all oppressed and frightened Psychics. A good idea being used for the wrong reasons. A declaration of war against humans was no better than what humans had tried to do.
Burn hated no-one but those who were fully aware of their crimes and did nothing to halt them. He did not blame humans for their fear, nor Psychics for their anger, he felt sorry for human ignorance and pain for Psychics needing to deal with unusual powers, mental abilities and being turned on by their loved ones. No-one was to blame for the mess, but people with the means to bring about peace were instead stirring matters into a storm that would soon rain down over all parties. There would be bloodshed, people would be hurt, innocents would be caught in the cross-fire. Too many innocents.
Burn couldn't allow such a thing to happen. War was never the answer, it only widened the gap between understanding and made the feelings of persecution run deeper, into further generations where there would come more Psychics brought up with the taste of conflict and more humans growing on the same.
It was a horrible future to think about. It wouldn't happen, he would not allow it. He would take down the leader of Neo-Noa by force if he needed to, he would make him see sense no matter what it took. It was never too late to set someone back on the right path and he would make Keith see sense whatever it cost him. He could not allow innocents, human or Psychiceer, to get hurt at the result of one man's scorn, no matter how understandable that hatred may have been.
Clenching his fists at his sides, Burn straightened himself defiantly.
"We all come from the same beginnings. We are all born the same way, we all bleed, we all die."
His expression firmed, blue eyes narrowed as he swept out an arm furiously.
"If I hadn't developed these abilities would you kill me, too?! This is not what a future should be built on! No foundation would be on death and bloodshed," Burn snarled "I won't allow it. This madness will go no further. If you won't see sense I'll beat the stupidity out of you until you can see it."
A flicker of flames before igniting fully. A battle was unavoidable.
Snap.
