Music has always meant so much to me, but up until now I'm starting to truly grasp how much music seriously impacts my life. I wouldn't know/be friends with 90% of the people in my life, and I don't think I'd nearly be as happy as a human without as well. I've built a lot of amazing friendships with some people that I'm very grateful to have. I really don't know what I'm going to do when I'm around 30 and don't have a steady income/health insurance through some sort of musical related source (gigging, live sound, studio work, electronic gear, booking, promotion, managing, etc.)
My Place in the Cosmos is floating along fine, but how to reach the type of crowd that would embrace and buy into our type of music is puzzling. I'm starting to think the world is nothing more than indie kids, metal/hardcore kids, and tweens. It's hard making music you enjoy/respect when metal kids laugh and mock, indie kids cringe and put up their nose, and tweens call your fellow band mates "cuties" or tell them they're "GA-JAWS." Finding a happy medium would be pleasant. In due time. Fuck metal/indie kids and tweens. I don't feel like having 7 minute long linear breakdowns, or obscure noise with lo-fi shitty recordings or becoming generic Pop Punk with a vocoder. Srsly. I'm not saying My Place is groundbreaking or the next Led Zeppelin, I'm just saying venues/bands 8 out of 10 times wouldn't bother checking us out after a show.
If anyone has a new band/artist to check out let me know. I'm starting to dig further and further into the past or listening to obscure video game metal because nothing I stumble across is good. All I listen to are The Protomen, Oingo Boingo, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Meat Loaf, Zombies, and The Police. Other than The Protomen, nothing these days intrigues me.
Rally-ho!
