So, I layered the same multi-oscillator tone generator over three octaves, bumped the detune up to full, and patched the detune amount for each voice to an envelope with a very slow attack so it would slowly decrease over time, evening out the sound. Then I put a filter through the same envelope so it would open over the same amount of time, and opened it about half-way with a bit of resonance on it, to give the sound a little more character and so that it wouldn't start off as inaudible before the filter had a chance to open.

Then I played it as two C-G-C chords, to get the low and high frequencies and give the sound its depth and power. I tried putting the same chord in the middle but it muddied the whole thing up.

Then I had to re-record the sound on a much lower volume, as it had an insane amount of distortion on the recording. That's what happens when you overlap sounds: things get loud.

I should have increased the attack on the envelope even further to make the sound slower, but there was a bit half-way through where the oscillators converged and it all sounded too harmonious. And the sustained note/release is too flat. And, of course, it wasn't made on the same equipment so it doesn't sound anywhere near as impressive as the original.

I don't know, though. For a first attempt I think it sounds pretty good.

What do YOU think?
