It has been so long.
The summer has passed in a blur of books. Enveloped in air conditioning and sipping on iced espresso drinks, I have spent the majority of my time getting settled into my wonderfully high apartment and working at the public library. Moving furniture and boxes one by one in the small, slow German made elevator (nothing against Germans)... I never realized how painstakingly slow accumulating "stuff" can take.
Another weekend has arrived, and I'm going to spend my Friday night watching documentaries and El Samourai, a French gangster movie. I'm unwinding at my local gay friendly coffee shop, where they play Ani Difranco and wear shirts like "Got Lube?" Their blackberry latte is delish. Plus, they have free internet.
But this isn't exciting.
What is. Well. I printed out my Thai blog (103 pages) in order to start my book. It will probably end up being a collection of short stories. Think of Bill Bryson as a young woman living in Asia. I would like to include not only my perceptions and experiences of Thailand and Singapore, but also of America post-Asia. I've only been back for about 8 months, but my reflections on the culture here has began to develop slowly as I encounter situations that I treat so much differently than I would have before I had been on the other side of the world. The only thing I want to avoid is being cliche, and of portraying people in a bad light. Objectivity.
The sun is starting to set and I want to enjoy the last moments of light and latte outdoors. Goodbye for now.
