It seems like I've been busy since my last post, but not much is coming to mind of happenings the last few weeks.
Allison and I did get a chance to go to the State Fair. We went on the Friday night that Rodney Atkins played. I like to go on days that someone we like is performing, that way we kind've get a two-fer, as far as admissions are concerned. We normally go on TX/OU weekend (with Aggie shirts on of course, how else could you piss thousands of people off at one time, without saying a word?), but the entertainment that evening was lame. I must say the Friday night we went was awesome - the traffic wasn't too bad, the weather was beautiful, and the 4 or 5 hours we spent there was enough time to see the buildings we wanted to see, walk around, eat some (ok, maybe a little more than 'some'), and feel like we took in the experience.
Hmmm, several weeks ago we did the Frito Lay Six Flags thing, which is always cool. I rode the new Tony Hawk ride, which is worth it, since we only waited in line maybe 15 minutes. I don't think I'd wait much more than that though. I rode everything I wanted to, and we left.
Allison and I have had some very enjoyable weekends lately. They seem to have disappeared for awhile recently, so their return was greatly welcomed! We've been doing quite a bit of hanging out, working in the yard, etc. Jennifer and Cory came over one weekend and we cooked out and caught up with them. We originally were supposed to rent a boat, but the weather didn't permit (Ike?), so we stayed at the house.
We got to see Shane and Tammy on Saturday night, they had an evening away from the new baby. Speaking of babies, we went to Dara and David's not too long ago as well, to see their new one. Everyone seems to be having children these days (some on their second). I love to go and see other's kids. We get quite a bit of unsolicited advice, but that's ok. It is kind've funny though, I remember before I got married, my friends, as they became wed, would start asking me when I was going to get married. Not unlike peer pressure as a teenager. Well, now that I'm married, it seems as though the stakes have grown. Now people are asking us when we're going to have children. Not for at least another year or so, for the record. I think we're shooting for a 2010 birth, if the good Lord permits.
I've often thought of ranting and raving about the economy on here recently, but I've resisted. I have yet to come up with a reason why I should suffer because I live within my means, and we didn't take on a mortgage payment that we couldn't cover, and we choose to save money each month in the event of a catastrophe or one of us loses our jobs. But for some reason I get to bailout all of the folks that don't plan for the future. I believe the vast majority of the blame lies on the people that simply took on more than they should have. But that's just me. I'm one of those people that holds myself responsible for my actions; there are few things that I don't control in my life to some extent.
And as I see my 401k drop, well, let's just say quite a bit the last 2 weeks, I don't get too upset, because I've got decades to ride this out (some don't), and let's face it, at this point I'm just buying low. Real low. :)
