...out of those chains that bind you, that is what i need to remind you...

as garett already informed livejournalers, we went to the strip district today and fucked around the "ethnic" food markets, coffee houses, delis and produce stands. it was really great. i got to order really great domestic provolone cheese from this middle-aged Italian guy chewing on a giant cigar behind the deli counter, and i got an Our Lady of Guadalupe prayer candle from the best smelling store ever! Melissa and paco would've really liked the Mexican food market because they had all the ingredients and edible paints to make sugar skulls for the day of the dead. it was super neat. I don't know what makes these places so incredibly appealing...probably because i'm just a big ole whitey doucheball american trying to hold onto some slight sense of worldliness. as if i'm incredibly cultured or something.

there were a ton of places to get coffee there, and prestogeorges was even roasting their own (what a neat process to watch those giant drum roasters and stuff...it was cool to be able to read about in the Caribou manual, and then to actually see someone do it...gawd, i'm such a dork for coffee), but i had already had caribou at that point...i was kind of sad not to be in a coffee mood, but i'll know for next time.

the worst place ever was wholey's meat and fish market, where garett had to price lobster tails for his mother. this place was by far the most disgusting thing i've ever been in. giant lobsters and trouts horrendously crowded in dirty tanks and every part of animals being sold as a good product. ugh. when you've got a section of a store labeled 'pig parts,' then you know that its not going to be a great experience for a vegetarian. at least i can say that i've been there...that's about all i can say. garett thought that it was really funny, my reaction to that place...and well, he can suck it. teehee.

that's all for now. i've been up early two days in a row, and now i'm going to go and chill out.
