And thanks to the people who came to my party on Sunday: Kevo, Kathamo, Grant, Liz, Johnny, and Brendan. It was tons of fun.
We started off the party snacking at Landis' apartment waiting for people to arrive. Around 5:30 we went over to Alumni Park at USC and busted out the outdoor games. First was a water balloon toss contest, followed by a short free-for-all targeted at Landis. :P Then came egg races, which began the reign of Team Awesome, who proceeded to kick Team Awesomer's ass. We continued in the 3-legged relay race (featuring ungodly ninja skillz by Kevo and myself), and finished as champions in Ultimate frisbee. After that we retired back to the apartment for more snacks (thanks to Kathamo for an amazing cheese/brownie plate and fruit/whipped cream plate) and a Coffee House Crunch cake from Cold Stone. Sooo goood. We played Uno and Celebrity, including a cool round-two variation by Johnny where you only get to say one word to get your team to guess. Good times.
My actual birthday was far less entertaining. Since it's my only weekday off this week, I ate lunch at home and went to the DMV to get my car registered in CA because my WI registration is expiring. After parking at a meter, I went inside and waited in line to find out I needed to get my car inspected first, so I went back out and pulled into a DMV inspection spot. Not that there was anything special about it, it was just another concrete rectangle. But then a guy told me I needed to finish my paperwork first, before the inspection. So I went back inside to ask, but it turns out no, paperwork later. So the inspector comes out with a clipboard and we walk outside to the spot to do the inspection. Basically she just checks the VIN and emissions sticker. Then I have to move my car back to a new meter (since my old one with all the time on it is now taken by a very lucky somebody). So stupid. Then I go back inside and wait in line again to get a number so I can wait some more. When my number is called, I hand over my paperwork, and at the end the ginormous lady tells me I need a smog check (despite all the DMV literature I read telling me the contrary). So I leave, luckily find a place that does smog checks about 3 blocks away, and get one. 60 bucks right there. There's a car wash next door, so I decide to get that done, since it hasn't rained lately. Afterwards, I take my shiny car back to the DMV and wait in line again (twice). Finally after 4 and a half hours I drop 183 bucks and get my CA plates.
Megan had told me to call her around dinner time to meet up, so once at home, I looked for a restaurant to go to, then proceeded to call Megan for the next three hours before getting a hold of her. Apparently she was at the hospital with her friend Sue, who was having a baby. Apparently also there is no cell phone reception in hospitals. Kind of silly- I mean, if there was any place you absolutely need a cell phone to work, wouldn't it be a hospital? Anyway, restaurants had closed by that time, and she had already eaten, so we decided to get dessert or coffee instead, after she got back and I finally ate some dinner. When she gets back, she calls me to say she's too tired and she's going to bed. I did the same.
So two leftover catering burritos and two runarounds. That was my birthday.
At least there was Sunday.
