Unfunny business.

So. Thinking about how we're still pretty much in the dark regarding Masa's stage accident, I had a brilliant - if somewhat suicidal - idea, and went looking into the Pit of Darkness for threads on 2chan. If you don't know 2chan, it's basically a Japanese message board covering a wide range of topics, including actor/myu related stuff, but also infested with trolls and general stupidity. But still, useful.

Here's what I was able to dig up. If you're PMSing, easily irritated by the slightest things or generally have certain grudges towards fandom, you might want to have a drink and a calming breath before this. >:|

Here are the facts.
* The accident happened on the 16th, opening day of YumeZou. (This we knew.)
* It happened during his dance solo number.
* Apparently his leg slipped on the stage - they said it was a strange raw floor, not a dance/musical stage - or he possibly misjudged the width of the stage in the low lighting.
* He also hit his leg - or got tangled - in the wheeled speaker that was at the front of the stage.
* The stage WAS pretty high.
* They didn't stop the performance, he got back on stage and continued the dance and he also returned to the front of the stage in another dance number later.
* At the fanclub event on the 27th, he said that he suffered a sprain - didn't say where - but was already all right.

Some of course are worried and express hope that it's nothing serious and also praise him for getting up and continuing, but here's the ugly part - the other reactions. To people who are reasonable enough to understand that it was an accident and that such things do happen, some respond with:

"I worried if he was all right, but this happening completely killed my enjoyment of the rest of the play."

"You might say it was an accident, but no matter how we look at it, it was his own fault that he didn't pay better attention."

"Falling off a stage, that's not only carelessness, that's unbelieveable."

"As a pro he should have been better prepared."

"Of course I'm also worried, but this can't be viewed as anything else but lack of professional attitude. A mistake is a mistake and he musnt't have allowed that to happen. I hope such a thing won't occur again."

"If he had been more careful, this wouldn't have occured. There might have been people who went to see it only that day - causing worry to the audience, that's not good for a stageplay."

"Meh, of course he stood up and continued. This mistake was a valueable experience and it should cause him to rethink things."

"I'm sure he thinks of this happening as a bitter failure. But well, failure is the mother of success, so I hope he does his best."

[to people who defend him, saying he was maybe tired and you know, ACCIDENT]: "Again this from the pro-Gauchi peanut gallery, saying that he just ganbare-d too much? Way to try and justify nonsense."

"Saying that his own failure is a 'fortune from God', what a sanctimonious excuse that is. It's like stating that he has had more hardships than the others who did rehearsal properly and did the whole thing without one mistake."

[and a particularly nice gem:]
"Well, it's reap what you sow, right?"

Basically it's the good old tune of "you've caused me discomfort and that is your own goddamn fault and I don't care, you're a pro so be a picture perfect doll that always does what pleases me." This attitude, not uncommon in the Japanese theatre world is not just brutally unforgiving but very very scary. Especially considering that even the comments that aren't outright negative are still unfazed and uncaring.

AND A PRO, HUH?! YOU KNOW WHAT A TRUE PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE IS? GETTING BACK THERE ON THE STAGE WITH A FUCKING SPRAIN AND CLENCHING HIS TEETH AND CONTINUING FOR YOUR SAKES YOU UNGRATEFUL BITCHES. COME OUT AND SAY YOU'VE NEVER ONCE ACCIDENTALLY FALLEN OFF FROM SOMEWHERE AND CRIED FROM PAIN RIGHT THERE. SAY IT. AND YOU WONDER JUST WHY HE HAS SELF-CONFIDENCE ISSUES.

....Sorry. x(

*throws up hands*

Stay classy, Japanese fandom. Stay classy. :/

Sorry for this kinda disgusting entry, but I thought it'd be good to clear things up. Also let this be a warning to you, people. If you catch yourself sinking this low, PAUSE AND THINK.

Oh, but to at least give you a happy PS after all this: the two mysterious songwiters / lyric writers of the new album are - as revealed during the fanclub event:
1.) TAKUI (YAY YAY YAY :DDDD)
2.) Ayumu-san~ (Surprise! My guess was Yun, but alas. That's not to be.)

masa, curiosity killed the cat, fandom, wtf?!
