I'll admit that I was influenced by a romance novel called "A Rose in Winter" by Kathleen Woodwiss for this scene. (If you like Beauty & the Beast, you'll like this book.)
I freaking LOVE Kathleen Woodwiss. She was one of the first trashy romance novel authors I truly adored. :) Good inspiration! I haven't read *that* book but I'm sure it's stupendous.
Heather witnessed most of the atrocities in New Bern, but was not a direct victim of any. I feel that if she had really been traumatized, she would have told Beck to take a hike because her judgment and the way she saw the world would have done a 180 from the person she was before. She's a strong person even though she's had a sheltered life. Too much trauma with a person like that would likely turn them into too much of a cynic to have helped Beck when he asked.
Makes total sense and I completely agree. It shows a lot when she first shows up in the police station. She's obviously uncomfortable being in the man from New Bern's presence but not terrified out of her mind because of it. And definitely would NOT take a job of liaison to a town had it really done damage to herself. I usually considered Heather lucky, without ever knowing exactly what went down in New Bern.
I'm attempting to make a resolution to do a better job when it comes to my writing.
Me too. :) I imagine in a few months we'll all be back on board and have new post up in the group daily.
Thank you very, very much. That really means a lot to me. I am really hoping to be more successful at selling my photography than I have previously been at beadwork.
I was at an art/craft show on Saturday selling some of my ceramic stuff from the semester and the woman selling beadwork next to me was making a killing. Is that not common for the craft?
My mom calls me a "flower child" because of my fondness for taking pictures of flowers. I just took pictures of our trip to the Phoenix Botanical Gardens, which is currently showing an exhibit by the glass artist Chihuly, so I'm hoping to have pics of that and the butterfly exhibit up soonish in photobucket.
Chihuly is a pretty interesting artist. He's all crazy and flaky like a lot of artists and some of his stuff just doesn't make sense, but I like his installations at gardens.
I love butterflies so I will probably love your pictures. :)

I'd have to say this one and well, poop, I can't remember the name of the other book -- the one with the 18 year old Russian countess and the English captain, girl's name was Synova or something very similar I believe, that was published in the early 90's are really the only ones I like by her. The female character saying "I'm two score" or "I'm eight and ten" instead of 20 or 18 starts to make me crazy after the first couple of times. Of course, there are issues I have with solely romance novels that makes them a rare read for me any more. I tend to be more inclined to read something like the Black Jewels trilogy if I want to read romance currently.
Me too. :) I imagine in a few months we'll all be back on board and have new post up in the group daily. Believe me, do I hope so...
I was at an art/craft show on Saturday selling some of my ceramic stuff from the semester and the woman selling beadwork next to me was making a killing. Is that not common for the craft? Might have been dependent on what she was selling. Of course, I don't have many kind things to say about the guy who ran the co-op I was selling out of. If stuff was selling like hotcakes from one of the artists/vendors, he'd go down to Mexico, see if he could find it for cheaper, buy a bunch and undersell the vendor. That coupled with people coming in and saying $100 was too expensive for a necklace I spent $50 on for the supplies alone (and the co-op took 10% off of all sales) was very discouraging, so after 18 months I got out. Had an acquaintance who sold in the co-op and did craft shows also. She said she rarely got anything more than $20 to move. Course, this is Tucson and well, people here are cheap...
Chihuly is a pretty interesting artist. He's all crazy and flaky like a lot of artists and some of his stuff just doesn't make sense, but I like his installations at gardens. I tended to like his flame type and pseudo cactus structures best. Not really a big fan of his tree like stuff that has a lot of curled glass in it. It just seems to come off as a bit over the top for my tastes.
As for the butterflies, it is on my to do list for this next week, getting off my duff and getting the botanical pics posted...
